Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
That's true, but I think Lois and Jimmy have had it it especially bad.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
Doctor Doom's first appearance involved him forcing the FF to use Doom's time mqchine... to steal Blackbeard's treasure. Invent TIME MACHINE, use it to send super powered enemies back in time to steal a chest of gold from pirates. There are so many things wrong with that scenario, but Doom is a master villain.

Like Doom would even listen to a pompous bastard about such things.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
I actually think that a lot of those "fully dressed" costumes look much better than the standard costumes. Power Girl, in particular, looks a lot cooler fully dressed, or such is my opinion, anyway.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
I definitely think Electra looks better, but I find the tunic doesn't work on Supergirl.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
Those are actually less revealing than a lot of the male counterparts (Supergirl in a tunic is less form-fitting than Superman's costume). At that point, it's not merely getting rid of the skimpy revealing outfit, but changing the whole superhero-in-tights thing. With the bright primary color type costumes, I just expect it to be form-fitting tights, whether it's on Superman or Spider-Man, Supergirl or Wonder Woman. If you get away from the tights, I think other parts of the design have to change too so it doesn't look like some kind of like half-assed cosplay or something. I dunno.
On the other hand, I thought that Elektra looked the best since it still fits with the "kind" of hero she is (ninja-adjacent). It makes sense for a ninja-type to dress that way, even if there's still some impracticality in it (I doubt the loin-cloth-type thing is practical). Vampirella and Psylocke also kinda matched the feel I expect.
With Zatanna and Black Canary I'm like... why is she wearing bellbottoms/cargo pants? The others were in between - I didn't like the tunics, but otherwise they looked good.

Related to that, a Batgirl cosplayer wearing proper body armor:

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
I'm officially deputizing this thrad as the Super Person or Persons Redesign Thrad Especially the Lady Heroes Who Usually Fight Half Naked. From Steve's link above my favorite new look is Power Girl's. Some of the others are alright others I don't necessarily care for. I just looked and across the tumblrverse the below was a thing people were reblogging around. I thought it was for some upcoming one off story but it's not. It's from an already one off story from 2009. Here I am scouring the nets of webness and even exploring my own hero designing software to examine what I think will make a better look for these iconic characters and already somebody had a great idea that could be easily workable into something awesome.
If that doesn't show up, it's from Phil Noto's tumblr blog.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
That really needs some contrasting color, preferably red in the usual areas (boots, gloves) I'd prefer the cape, but it's not necessary. You could just make the neck red as well. I can also do without the trunks, but still make the belt gold.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
Yep. Pretty much what I was thinking. Red boots and or gloves, a gold belt, a darker blue, some gold trimming and it works.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
How likely is it that a comic would actually feature a camel-toe?

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
Mainstream or Independent comic? If the former, not very likely, though Jim Balent's (urgh) Catwoman in the '90s featured the title character in an outfit that looked like it was painted on with not only belly button but nipples clearly visible.
With an Indy comic, anything goes.

And with breasts the size of watermelons. How on Earth she was supposed to stand upright without severe back pain I'll never understand. At least Power Girl has the excuse of being (sort of) a Kryptonian.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
While reading some obits for Carmine Infantino, I came across this panel. Check out Batgirl's costume, pretty much the same as Batman's costume.

Re: Springtime for Geek Girls?
I don't regularly read comics anymore, haven't for a while now. But, every once in a while I come across something that makes me wish I still did.
This time it was this cross promotion between WeLoveFine and Kelly Sue DeConnick (the writer of Captain Marvel).
Quote:
Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel, Avengers Assemble) has collaborated with WeLoveFine to guest curate a collection of t-shirts the Marvel Comics superheroes featuring Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman. The showcase includes bright pop art designs and straight-from-the-pages artwork of two of Marvel's favorite heroines. DeConnick will be donating her curation commission to Girls' Leadership Institute, a nonprofit organization that seeks "to help foster and give voice to the heroines of tomorrow."
