SHATNER roast
I managed to make my way halfway through the SHATNER (sorry, it must be in CAPS for effect) roast. Funniest thing I have seen on TV in a long time. Sure, there were some dull, not funny moments, but quite a few gems. I was usually too busy keeping my spleen from exploding to memorize any of the lines, but here are a few:
Betty White (who, BTW, unlike others half, er, a quarter of her age, did not use notes or anything to help with recall): "Oh, Bill...you were supposed to explore the galaxy, not fill it!"
A Comedian I can't remember which..."You were a sci-fi icon! But then you let yourself go, and got all fat. What happened.....Carrie Fisher?!"
Shatner himself "Betty White is so old that on the first game show she was on the prize was fire"
Nichelle Nichols recalled her and SHATNER's historic first TV interracial kiss, and said "Bill, lets make TV history again, come here and kiss.......my black ass!"
The montage of SHATNER singing was also worth the price of having to put up with the second rate comics Comedy Central insists on putting on these shows. I wish they would just stick with the regular stars, and they tended to have better material than the comics did.
I also thought that they had way too many jabs at George Takai. Hell, he almost got ripped as much as Shatner.
At work, we sometimes play the old Dean Martin roasts for the patients. These comedy central ones cant hold a candle to those, especially with Don Rickles, but I gotta admit SHATNER's was pretty funny.

Re: SHATNER roast
I quite enjoyed it too. What got old were all the gay jokes in refernece to George Takei and Andy Dick. Yes, to a certain point such are hilarious, but IMO they did it just too much.
I think I like it better than the Pamela Anderson roast - you can really tell she has no sense of humor with regards to even good natured jabs at PETA.
Shater was yucking it up at everything.

Of course I did not see it, being in NZ and all but I do remember the old time roasts, Ruth Buzzey's was a favourite.

Except when George Takei said something about Shatner being a big devils food cake with cream filling that he just wanted to stick his face into and go b-b-b-b-b-b-b. Shatner was dumbfounded by that one.

Re: SHATNER roast
Farah Fawcett was painful to watch, but I actually liked Andy Dick in this one. The Kock bit was fucking hysterical.
Takei: "Betty White, Nichelle Nichols, Farah Fawcett. It smells like pussy! ... I think."

Re: SHATNER roast
Was Farah high or drunk or what?
Andy Dick's Kirk-Spock asshole baby bit was indeed quite funny.

I seriously doubt that.
I TiVo'd the thing, but Comedy Fucking Central programmed it to run long and I missed Shatner's wrap-up at the end. It replays on Friday at 9pm PDT, so I'm going to record it again and extend the stop time.
It was hysterical, and even with the 2nd-rate comedians, The Shat was just too rich a target for them to screw it up. Poor Farrah was out of her depth, but I agree that she just wasn't cut out for the format. She made a good target herself, at least.
Did y'all notice that Brent Spiner and Rene Auberjonois were in the audience? Even though they never worked together AFAIK (ST: Generations had both of them, but no scenes together), Spiner probably would've been a great participant for the roast.
I agree the gay jokes got old, but Takei dished out enough of his own when it was his turn.
Overall, it could've been better, but it was still funny as hell.

Yeah, I had the same problem, too. I managed to record a repeat, and even set it to record for an extra half-hour afterward, but somehow the repeat managed to fit in the time. I don't know if they cut some material out to make it happen, though, as I only watched the end part that I missed the first time around.

Rene Auberjonois was in Generations?! I totally missed that.
Jeri Ryan was in the crowd, too. She is so fucking hot.

I would bet that all the actors in all the Trek incarnations have probably met at conventions, movie premeires, and whatnot. Not all at once, mind you, but two or three at a time. Multiply that by the number of conventions and related events, and probably everyone has met everyone else by now... just a conjecture on my part, however.

No, by "they" I meant Spiner and Shatner. Actually, I forgot that Auberjonois appears in ST6 (as a human character), as well. But I was just thinking that Spiner would probably be a wicked roaster, and he certainly has better comic timing than a couple of the yahoos up on the dais, or maybe all of them.

So does the guy who plays Ben Cisco's father, which I had also forgotten until I watched it last night.

Re: SHATNER roast
Brock Peters, I believe, played Adm. Cartwright and Cisco's dad. I think he died a few years back.
