I woke up Saturday morning feeling terrible. Either I ate something that really disagreed with me, or I got a really nasty stomach virus.
In case you're eating dinner or something ...
In any event, I found myself leaning over the bathroom sink and emptying my stomach. Is that not the most unpleasant sensation? I'd rather someone slashed my wrists with a knife.
The muscle contractions were so fierce that all of my abdominal muscles locked up -- even the diaphragm. Suddenly, I realized that I couldn't breathe. For 30 seconds or so, I kept trying to take a breath, and nothing would happen.
You know how you read those stories about people choking of their own vomit? While I know intellectually how that can happen, it has never before seemed "real," if you know what I mean.
But after 30 seconds or so of not being able to get a breath, it became very clear to me that I was in very real danger of passing out. And I realized that if that happened, it was very likely that I would choke -- and very likely die.
That was not a pleasant thought.
Finally, after an agonizingly-long 30 seconds or so, I managed to get a quick breath. Then, after another 30 seconds or so, I was able to get another breath, and then I was able to breathe more or less normally.
Breathing never seemed like such a wonderful experience! Afterwards, I spent maybe 5 minutes or so realizing that I'd just come close to dying, and in a most undignified manner.
I missed graduation, because I was too sick to attend. That was a bummer.
On the other hand, I'm feeling much better today!
Cheers,
Michael

We have got ADSL ... not exactly broadband - 384K - but a whole lot better than before. Now I just need some more RAM to cope with it ... and a new computer to put the RAM in.
