Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
I watched that last night. My Ipad decided to play sound again or I would have been very angry. I am so happy about all the casting, but we still haven't heard about Vinne Van Lowe.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
I watched all 3 seasons again recently, and I remember why I liked the show so much the first time: it is very consistent in its anti-bullying and anti-rape-culture message without getting preachy about that.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
Except, I'm kind of sad to say, for the talented dancer Dick Casablancas, who is still friends with Veronica even though he facilitated her rape. I enjoy him as a character as much as anyone, but that's hard to get past.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
So vm browbeat me into watching Veronica Mars now that it's on Amazon Prime and I it deeply. I've been a girl detective kind of girl since Nancy Drew came into my life when I was in first grade, so it doesn't at all surprise me that I love VMars too, but what did surprise me is how hard-boiled it is. Dashiell Hammett could easily have written it, and it has so many classic noir references (the narration, themes of corruption, love coupled with inevitable betrayal and pain, loss of innocence, people not being what they seem, investigations that are really covers for some other nefarious scheme, double crosses etc.). It's even packed with direct references to hard-boiled fiction, like when Veronica and Keith do whole dialogue bits in Sam Spade style.
I'm still on season one but I plan to marathon like a crazy person this weekend.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
And another thing. She's straight ruthless. Like all hard-boiled detectives, she is amoral in pursuit of a case. I wouldn't be at all surprised, therefore, if her part on Deadwood helped her get the job.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
I'm pretty sure Kristen Bell was already cast as Veronica Mars before the Deadwood episodes she was in had aired.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
So are you going to the movie now, Liv? They've released a list of locations that will be showing it. I have to drive half an hour but that's not unreasonable. I'll be buying my ticket on February 14th along with all the other suckers.

Oh for sure. I'm still on season two, but I'll make a point of finishing before the movie comes out.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
Oh, and who else here has watched Party Down? Because Rob Thomas wrote that devastatingly short-lived series and there is a huge amount of casting overlap. Also, it's hilarious and wonderful and the episode with Steve Gutenberg is one of the greatest things of all time.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
Qindai and I both watched Party Down- great cast. Jane Lynch, Megan Mullally, Jennifer Coolidge? Holy crap. And yes, tons of overlap.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
I watched it and own it, or at least part of it. There was a two season pack going cheap at Target one day, but I don't know if that's the full series.

Re: Veronica Mars FOREVER
It is. Two short seasons of 10 episodes each.
Okay, I have some bones to pick with Veronica Mars. I just finished the second season and there were major issues for me. I'll start with the bizarre trajectory of the Jackie character. I wasn't crazy about the repetant snob/slut angle whatsoever because it seemed so fake and contrived, but then for her story to end with that ludicrously tacked-on New York thing was nonsensical. If she only decided to go back to her surprise kid after her father told her it was best if she went to Paris, then why did she lie about the Sorbonne weeks before that? What was Plan A in this scenario? Bah humbug. Should have kept her a mean girl.
Next, let's deal with the travesty that was the Aaron Echolls trial. In order for what went down to make any sense, we have to assume that forensic pathologists cannot tell the difference between a blow struck by an ashtray and one struck by an Oscar. Absurd on its face. We also have to completely forget about the massive gasoline fire Aaron started in that ratchet back yard, the fire that put Keith in the hospital with extensive injuries. Sure, you can bribe the homeowners to pretend they didn't see anything, but the fire left hard evidence behind. It didn't even come up. Also, in what universe does a judge respond "I'll allow it" to the vd question? Because the justice system is disgusting, I could see it happening in a rape trial, but murder? Come on. It's freaking privileged information!
Speaking of chlamydia, if she got it from Cassidy sophomore year, then at least Duncan got it from her, and possibly Logan too, although it's not clear to me if they ever had sex. I didn't see those awkward conversations happening.
Other lesser problems I had include the little kids ex machina locked in the back of the van in the middle of the night so they could witness Weasel chloroform Thumper, Weasel's inexplicable confession to the Fitzgerald priest which then appeared to have gone nowhere since they killed Thumper anyway and the consistently inconsistent ethics of Keith and Veronica. One minute they're too upright to, say, tell the truth about the bus voicemail or to let Trina believe the blood marrow scam was just an acting test; the next minute they're lying to each other and everyone else as it suits the plot, not so much their characters.
