Default Seasonal madness

Good evening,

My name is godfry.

godfry n. glad.

uh....um...

...I am a college football addict.

The season has begun. The madness is upon me. I am compelled to spend Saturdays making apple pies and watching two college football games, back to back. I also drink considerable amounts of liquorous spirits and...

I don't think there is anything I can do about it.

<sits down, awkwardly>

I... I... I am not alone?

I'm a Hokie fan. What could be...? I like Hokie football.
Don't know why. The turkeys, mayhaps. Otherwise, I follow the Pac10.

Damn Trojans.

I live in the midst of Duck/Beaver country, but am neither.

Such an admission...

<looks at floor, distractedly>

...laughs an quiet little evil laugh.

godfry

(who's following the Vols this year, too....along with West Virginia.)

You did just fine, liv. :yowza:

I picked the team because I liked the name. "Hokie" in slang parlance in these parts means, "cheesy", "3rd rate", and "juvenile" all at once. Then I found out what "Hokie" meant to the Virgin Techies...it's a colloquial term for the wild turkey. Which was even better, since I could, without denigrating the team performance call them "a buncha turkeys," and be accurate. And then seeing the fans with the rubber turkey heads and gobbling at the opponents...well, that sealed it, it was my kinda team.

Damned if they didn't become a contender for the national title that year.

Then, I began to suspect that that insidious tune and dance that we learned as pre-adolescents, the "hokie-pokie" is a play off of wild turkey antics. Talk about hokie.

Given that the Virgin Techies are techies, I would be surprised if they haven't some kind of smilie of a turkey that does the turkey trot, if not the hokie pokie.

I'd rather have ingrown toenail surgery than watch football.

OK, not really, but it does rate rather low in my "things I want to spend time doing" list. However, if I could watch while humping a good-looking blonde (or brunette, or redhead) at the same time as eating a Carl's Jr. Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger and washing it down with a Diet Dr. Pepper, then I might go for it. heh

I live in Ohio and work at U of Michigan. I am run out of the state with pitchforks and torches the week before Thanksgiving. College football is not my favorite thing in the world. (Though the Yale-Harvard games were always amusing, if nothing else).

Which state? Or does UM have a campus in Ohio, now?

Dawgs, eh?

You guys are contenders.

Welcome to our little ward at the asylum... I watched Oklahoma roll over the Ducks. Expected, but still sad. I hate Oklahoma like the Floridas.

Beginning of an interesting year. Knock the guy off the top the pole...it looks like.

Poor Ducks. Damn Oklahoma. I cannot believe a state would roll over some poor helpless little ducks; mean old state. I hate Oklahoma too, dammit. Yeah, and those Floridas two.

Didn't you mean knock the guy off the top of the poll? heh

I am chased out of Michigan back to Ohio with threats not to return if the Buckeyes should happen to pull off a win. :)

I don't give a damn about the Ducks, poor or not. Damning Oklahoma is carrying coals to Newcastle - exceedingly redundant. And it's Floridas three, not two.

And sorry, no, I meant Pole. You know Zbignew Majzenkizcwicz, don't you? Tall guy?

"Hello, Godfry!"
I am a basebaholic, not a footbaholic, but I've watched my share of college games. Gosh, I love a good game on TV!
