I haven't seen the Simpson's in awhile so I decided to download a few episodes to see what they were up to. The first was a lame episode with bad late-night talk show style jokes about how kids these days are totally woosy unlike kids in the past. An original take if I've ever seen one. So I tried again, and in that episode they reference an early golden age simpson episode of camp krusty... so I decided to watch that episode instead. Thanks Simpsons, great suggestion!

I took some pictures of a spider hanging out by our front porch light, this picture didn't have much in focus, but I got a pretty good shot of its foot hanging onto its web....

The spider was on what I would consider the underside of the web, between the web and the house. I was taking the picture pointing straight up at the sky.

Nice spider. Some kind of orbweaver, maybe? If you post it on iNaturalist someone will probably ID it for you.

I'm pretty certain it's a female Araneus diadematus (Cross Orbweaver, European Garden Spider, Cross Spider, Diadem Spider, Garden Spider, Garden Cross Spider).

It's as common as dirt around here, there's probably at least 10 webs of these around the outside of the house during the warmer months. We've consistently had one large female that makes her home around the porch light between front door and the garage. Usually, it's higher up and closer to the wall, but this year, she made one between the planter and the light, and that allowed me to get a shot of her from below with nothing but sky above her.
