Skype (How cool is this?)

My son is currently in Bulgaria with his friend. I Live in Denver, CO. We can talk to each other for free over the internet with Skype. All you need is a microphone for your computer. You can also send files and text chat. You can even call a real phone (for a small fee). What a great program!

I talk to Watser? in Holland using Skype. He uses a headset and I use a Skype phone. The sound is crystal clear with no echo. It's just like you're talking on a landline phone. :phone:

Yup, I used Skype a lot while I was in France. I still have a couple euros of credit, now that you mention it.

What's your son doing in Bulgaria, if you don't mind me snooping? I love Bulgaria, and I've visited several times. In fact, it is/was my academic research area

I have been using Skype since last April/ It is incredible. I speak to my friends in England and Spain.

the phone bills were so horrendous between Shaguar in England and i in florida, that his secretary asked if his mobile had been stolen!! he got skype and calls me every day for one penny a minute! plus it is secure, nothing confidential can be tracked YET.

He was visiting his friend who is Bulgarian/American and goes there every summer to see his father. My son just got back Friday night . He was in Burgas on the Black Sea.

How about a Skype phone? Make and receive phone calls anywhere wireless internet is available.

I personally haven't had much use for the Skype program itself. I first heard about Skype a few years when a friend of mine, a business man from the Netherlands, wanted to call me. I didn't have to install anything since he used it to call me on my landline. It wasn't the best connection, but it was good enough to converse, and certainly better than Iparty (an old voice conference program which is no longer in distribution). The quality is much better now though. Another friend of mine, from Melbourne, Australia, uses a Skype phone with a U.S. number to call me for free on my Vonage phone. Occasionally I'll hear an echo, but otherwise it's pretty damn good.

Does anyone else use Vonage, by the way?
