Happy Thanksgiving y'all!
For a chance of pace, rigorist and I are going to have Thanksgiving dinner in our local Celtic themed bar. Squash soup, turkey and stuffing and vegetables and pumpkin cheesecake! I may swap the cheesecake for toffee pudding, since I'm addicted to the stuff.
I am in such a different place than last year - well literally, since we moved across the river. I have a job I love that pays the bills (most of them) and a great group of friends and family. Things are good.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving y'all!
I've been on a rigorous diet for a couple months and today is no exception, so I'm in isolation.
Happy Thanksgiving (and pre-Evacuation Day) everyone!

Correction - it was apple parsnip soup and it was totally awesome. Parsnips may be my new best friend. And we got a free bottle of wine! This may be our new tradition.

Not a complete list, but a top and bottom ten, but not necessarily ranked in any sort of order.

2. My 82 year old dad, who's still going strong, and his lady-friend Shirley, for keeping him company.
3. My family, immediate and extended, near and far. I love and respect you all more than you know.
4. My friends, near and far, old and new, without whom I would not be the person I am today, as well as very lonely.
5. Teachers, who despite low pay, continue to do one of the most important and difficult jobs in America.
6. Good police officers who can keep us safe from the bad police officers, and terrorists and other people of malintent.
7. Sanitation workers, without whom I would be buried beneath a veritable mountain of Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger wrappers, 2-liter Diet Dr Pepper bottles, and whiskey bottles.
8. Having been continuously gainfully employed for all but 3 days of the last 40 years.
9. Having been fortunate enough to have lived in interesting places, and met interesting people, all without killing them, or myself.
10. Rich people with a generous heart. I'm calling you out now, I could use a little generosity right now, or at least a winning lottery ticket. I promise if I get rich, I will be so generous I'll be poor again. Ah, it would probably happen anyway.
I am least thankful for:
1. Terrorists, foreign and domestic, and other people of a malicious bent.
2. Abusers and bullies, and mean and inconsiderate people in general.
3. Ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, and other blood-sucking parasites, such as career politicians and lobbyists.
4. Humidity, especially when combined with heat.
5. People who drive slow in the fast lane, well, actually, anyone who is impeding my forward progress, whether on roads or pedestrian walkways.
6. My bad ankle.
7. People who don't get my sarcastic sense of humor.
8. Deliberate idiots, people who are intentionally ignorant, and even worse, those that want them to be, and their tools, the talk radio and news channel bloviators.
9. Cheaters, because they actually do win sometimes. And liars. I'm talking about people like Dr. Ben Carson, a self-admitted plagiarist and pathological liar.
10. Narcissistic egotists like Donald Trump.

I would like to add scientists and virtually the entirety of the medical profession to the top part of my list.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving y'all!
Weirdly enough, this weekend is porksgiving for me. Last night after work I stopped at the supermarket and bought some things for the weekend. I ended up buying some ground pork because it was on sale. Little did I know that the fam would be serving pork loin instead of turkey for the big day. I am not at all put out by this development.

Protip: when you use ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon in sweet potato pie, it tastes pretty much exactly like pumpkin pie.

We didn't have anything you'd find in the Norman Rockwall dinner, but it was fine.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving y'all!
We didn't have our usual Czech dinner (pork roast with carrots and potatoes, Czech dumplings, sour cream gravy and zeli) as my wife decided it was too much work for her this year. So, we settled for just having the roast pork with the carrots and potatoes and sour cream gravy. I missed the dumplings but the zeli (sweet and sour cabbage), not so much.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving y'all!
We did bacon sammiches. With lots of bacon fried up.
I had BLT, the SO had a club. Then I had second BLT. We ate the extra fried strips straight up. We were thankful.
I also made apple pie with frozen pie guts I'd made over a year ago. Gravensteins.
I didn't cut the pie until this morning, but I sure was thankful.
