Yes! Thank you. People trying to debate me with links are shocked when I look at their links and their "totally ineffective" turns out to be >80% efficacy. Why that's not good enough medically is "perfect" is preferred when possible..

It would be a great "Social Distancing" aid, though.

It’s said* that if a Brit shows up at the Finnish border and stares wordlessly unblinking and in obvious exasperation at the agent for three straight minutes, and then shouts at the top of his lungs, “PERKELE!” the agent will wordlessly nod in understanding and drop the British passport in the shredder and direct the new Finn to the appropriate government office and liquor store for vodka and passport.

Oh yeah, that could be interesting...
Dog runs up to JoeP. "Aww who's a good doggie" says Joep as he smooths him.
"Sir, you have COVID-19" says the airport official.

I have fairly good insurance. It is through Cigna. Usually I have a drug co-pay of $10.
And I had to pay for my flu shot. $23. I paid it because I was already there and it's worth not having to go out for one again. But I also make good money and am not going to sweat $23. Not like, say, somebody who doesn't make great money or has kids to think about. Husband has different employer insurance and his was free.
$23 for a critical and basic public health measure that is like, quintuply important this year. What the fuck. We are so fucked this winter.

I normally get a flu shot. When I went back to school at UGA, I got into the habit. I figured they made us get MMR for a good reason and that diseases spread at college.
I also learned about herd immunity and how get vaccinated helps the herd
This year obviously is more important than normal.
Anyway, my flu shot was free at safeway and I got 10 percent off of my groceries, so I think your insurance must suck

Re: Winnie the Flu
I e-mailed our benefits person and apparently it would have been free if I had gotten it at my doctor's office, instead of just going to the pharmacy. So instead of spending literally 3 minutes waiting for the pharmacy lady to come around the counter with the jab, I should have waited, made an appointment, sat in the waiting room, and taken up more healthcare resources.

The work here shows that there is global convergence (i.e., across many nations) to an uncontrolled Ro = 4.5 that describes the early time spread of COVID-19. This value is in agreement with independent estimates from other sources reviewed here and adds to the growing consensus that the early estimate of Ro = 2.2 adopted by the World Health Organization is low

To our knowledge, our analysis is the first comprehensive survey of the traditional and online media landscape on this issue. We found that media mentions of US President Donald Trump within the context of COVID-19misinformationmade up by far the largest share of the infodemic.
Trump mentions comprised 37.9% of the overall misinformationconversation, well ahead of any other topics. We conclude that the President of the UnitedStates was likely the largest driver of the COVID-19 misinformation“infodemic”. Only 16.4% of the misinformationconversationwas “factchecking” in nature, suggesting that the majority of COVIDmisinformationis conveyed by the media without question or correction.

Re: Winnie the Flu
SF has been having decent numbers compared to the whole of the US, so of course they are now allowing some indoor dinning and what not, which people will certainly attend so expect those good numbers to go away.
On the positive many places have built rugged outdoor partially walled seating areas which could be a nice change to dinning in general. I do wonder how many future trends are being set through the swift changes. Like I am certain somewhere in the three decades after it ends, face masks will become the it, and in, totally tubular fashion trend, with all the art designs and blinging up being a fashion trend entails. (Presuming face masks don’t become a standard of life under an always orange sky raining ash).

Ditto, we had a nice few months of r<1 for a while. Then it was decided to reopen indoor dining, casinos, gymns, schools. Surprise! Numbers going up! What a shock. Today 796 new positives, r=1.19. Stats at the bottom.

Re: Winnie the Flu
There's been a sudden bump in the number of positive cases in the UK, due to sixteen thousand positive tests not being reported (or contact traced) due to "technical issues."
It turns out that the reason they were missed is because the system is being run on Microsoft Excel.
And the fucking idiots running it, don't even know how to use Excel properly - they were recording one case per column rather than one case per row!
Obviously Boris Johnson's "World beating" system (which has cost taxpayers thirty-five million pounds, so far) shouldn't be running on a spreadsheet - but Excel probably could cope if it were used properly because it can handle up to a million rows - which is more than the number of cases, so far. But Excel runs out of columns at "XFD" - which is 16384.

Re: Winnie the Flu
By far the worst part about this story is the number of people whose main takeaway is that you should use Excel rows, not Excel columns, to track a national epidemic.
