Humor occurs! There's a particularly hilariously awful Super Group on the Virtue server which is famous for spam-inviting people and trying to force them to farm prestige (the in-game currency used to buy stuff for your Super Group base). Anyway, some marketeers decided to do something about this: You can turn in-game money ("influence" or "infamy" or "information", depending on your faction) into prestige. By buying it at a ludicrously bad rate.
Enter the Crazy 88s, a supergroup devoted to buying prestige in bulk quantities using money extracted from the in-game markets. They just became the #1 supergroup on Virtue, by a large margin. EverStryke, one of the most annoying players in the game, has already started one forum thread (since trashed) about how unnatural and unfair it is that they're "cheating" and "exploiting".

I just picked up a copy of GR Complete Collection for my 2nd account. Might as well start getting my vet badges.

Sure, it's a funny Conan O'Brien piece about lame DC heroes, but it's got the person responsible for the best thing to ever happen to the DC Universe.
Hey, wei yau, I'm happy for you and everything and Imma let you finish, but Conan O'Brien created the best character of all time. OF ALL TIME. (with help from GOD, aka Bruce Timm)
"Aunt Millie": Invulnerability/dual-blades tanker. "Putting the aunt back in taunt aura." Invulnerability is set for all effects off. So there's just this little old lady in a sweater with a plaid skirt, and somehow eight people shooting at her is a non-issue.
Typical chatter on a team:
[Team] Aunt Millie: When I was a little girl, the insane people in giant robot exoskeletons had decent haircuts. This is a disgrace!
[Team] Aunt Millie: When I was a little girl, the Malta Group had to settle for sending Zeus class donkey carts after people who could run sorta fast. AND THEY WERE GRATEFUL!
Or a personal favorite:
[Team] Blaster: (comment about a hovering character's costume)
[Team] Aunt Millie: YOUNG MAN! Are you looking up her skirt? That is entirely inappropriate. You should be ashamed.
[Team] Blaster: Oh, "young man" is a problem? I'll fix that.
(Blaster costume-changes to female costume.)
[Team] Aunt Millie: ... well, as long as you're comfortable with who you are, that's the important thing.

About as clever as my common puns get is for one or two characters instead of having F9 bound to say "Ready!" in team channel the characters says "You point, I punch."
October 18, 2012 through October 22, 2012 was the final Double XP Event for the Paragon Studios City of Heroes, Villains Going Rogue FREEDOM. The first few 2xp events I suffered through were fun but something of a sensory overload. Usually the last day was a mad scramble to stuff as much filthy xp into our greedy maws as we could handle. The servers were tired and super-maxed. Lag and map servers a-plenty. I sort of skipped the majority of the 2xp events between then and now because of it. But this last event I was determined to make it count. And, man, I feel like I did. I didn't have the brain torturing episode that a few people had, those who were mad enough to participate in the Extra Life charity marathon. (Players agreed to play for up to 24 hours, uninterrupted to raise money for children's charities.) But I did run my own marathon-guantlet-a-thon.
I had been preparing for this since the announcement of the schedule. I ran up some of my characters into the 40s awaiting this weekend to make the big push. I eschewed my normal sleep schedule so the days sort of melanged together.
Thursday would be the easy day, I told myself. Percy Blake, Electric Melee and Willpower scrapper, the granddaughter of an illicit affair between Praetorian Madame Danger (Maria Jenkins) and Statesman (Tyrant, Emperor Marcus Cole); my version of a Ms Liberty as inspired by Cassie Sandsmark aka Wonder Girl. I had left her at level 48. I soloed the effort. Who knew that two stinking levels would take the better part of five hours? I didn't.
She's in there somewhere. I honestly couldn't have timed it better were I trying. All hail the mighty Zeus' Spear! I mean, Lightning Rod!
Next up, after a a few hours of rest and television, was Calamity Katie. She doesn't have much of a personal backstory. She's just always had the powers she has. She was inspired by The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. Katie just happens to be one of Brisco's ancestors and the family benefited from his exposure to the Orbs that he encountered back in the day.
I pushed her from 43 to 50.
Late Saturday wei popped in for a brief run at a few things. I decided to take advantage of that and finally get Major Danger up to snuff. Previous to 2xp weekend I'd been pushing hard to get her to 50. I stopped a scant 7,000 from superding just so somebody could be there when it happened. Before this, all of the Danger projects had made it to 50 with no one there to share the joy. Miss Danger, aka Major Danger were inspired by Hawk Girl from Justice League/Unlimited.
She was well and truly hidden when it happened.
The character I pushed hardest with was Azeriel. She was a lowly level 36 when I started. At first I was just going to go to 40. But I got on some good rolling teams and she was in the middle of 40 before I knew it. I spent the good part of all Sunday doing it, too. Late Sunday night an ITF fell apart but luckily I had a back up plan. Well, it wasn't a back up plan I was planning on, but good fortune smiled upon me, and my good friend who I co-opted into doing my work for me. Sadly, the demorecord I had intended to use for screenshots failed. Totally my fault, though. I popped into the mission, started the record and then accidentally clicked the exit. But the good news is, my friend who joined me also made the big mad super ding to 50 with his character - which I did get a demo of!
Ladies, Gentlemen, and distinguished Others of the Free Thought and Talk Forum, Chat Emporuim and Free Thought and Talk Forum and Chat Emporium Emporium, I give you Chrysos Krios, the Golden Fleece made Flesh, now level 50! (That's wei yau, y'all.)
Dude, that shot of Katie is just about perfect. She looks great in it.
I agree that it was the best 2XP ever! Even if I was a zombie this morning, it was totally worth running Chryssie and Azeriel to 50. Even moreso since you took the trouble to stall your XP just for the sake of timing.
Another great memory of a great game with a great friend. Thank you.
I seriously love Mr JJ Jingles. You made some great costumes for him and he's always a hoot to team with. Whatever happens in the future, I'll definitely miss the CoH version of him.

My Dear Questians (those devotees and followers of the cheesy serial Galaxy Quest), I have a major gift surprise for you. But first, some story time that really doesn't mean much except to me.
For nearly the full run of City of Heroes there is one player run event that was always there. It started during a time when a certain archetype wasn't very favored by the community at large. Often looked down upon as not as useful or tedious to play, the Tanker was very much the backbone of a group. Aside: Though very useful for many things, one of the good things about CoH was that the Brick, the Tanker, the Meatshield, wasn't absolutely necessary. The Holy Trinity of MMO gaming - the Healer, the Tank, the Mage, was somewhat skewed. A group could be quite effective without all of those elements present. It was because of this flexibility in group dynamics that in the early days Tankers weren't sought after, groups often going for the Orange Numbers (high damage dealing archetypes).
Tanker Tuesday was formed in an effort to raise awareness of the usefulness and dynamic abilities of the archetype, no matter the powerset. To right this wrong that had spread into the worlds of CoH. It started small, on one server - Champion, I believe. It soon spread to a couple other servers until there was more demand for the party than any one month of Tuesdays could allow.
I didn't start participating until far too late in my own CoH time, but once I got it, I got it big. At first I'd joyously join them when the came through my home server. Soon after I was following them around just because it was so much darn fun. It was on one of my first Groupie tours that I met the Tanker below. I was instantly smitten because, well, how could I not? Being a Questian and all, right? The player is a p chill dude himself, but it's always this character that gives me the fits of .
Ladies, Gentlemen and Beings of Assorted Assortment, I give you GRABTHAR'S HAMMER.
Left to Right: Miss Danger, Percy Blake, Susie-Droid, Velvet Soul, Alexa Strong, Alacritas, Prydwen and Mr Impervium in front of the Cyrus Oliver Thompson "Breakneck" Memorial
This is only 8 of my many peoples. I'm planning on finishing this work with all of my heroes in one shot and all of my villains in another. Or just everyone in one shot, period.
Once again, my friend, thank you for leading the way.
Here are the original Loyal Zodiac Guardsmen, preparing to leave through the Ouroboros Portal in search of their lost comrades:
Left to right: Gui Bai Tou (Ghost Rabbit), Shan Lau Hu (Lightning Tiger), Ti Gou (Iron Dog), Jiang Zhu (Honest Boar), Hou Ma (Fire Horse) and Shi Kuai Niu (Stone Ox)
Row 1: El Tigre Chino, Bruce Leroy Green, The Crimson Bantam, Kassai, Mister JJ Jingles, Dog O'War
Row 2: Gui Bai Tou (Ghost Rabbit), Shan Lau Hu (Lightning Tiger), Ti Gou (Iron Dog), Jiang Zhu (Honest Boar), Hou Ma (Fire Horse), Shi Kuai Niu (Stone Ox)
Thanks to an awesome conversion utility that someone in the CoH community developed, I'm able to make these team photos much faster than before. So....brace yourselves.
Dude, you don't even know what I've got planned. Here are some captions to give you an idea.
- "The Dragon watches the world burn and is pleased."
- Inspired directly by you: "They dared to love, in a world that time forgot!"
- "Once upon a time....there was a little wooden boy; who met a little rag doll...and together, they raised an army to take over the world! Only a ragtag band of Storybook Legends stand in their way!"
Well, I finished what I had planned, time for new ideas
