Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
It was terrible. I ended up giggling in all the serious bits, it was so so so bad! And I audibly groaned and vomited a little bit into my mouth when Clint (Walt) changes his tune and goes to confession towards the end of the movie.
It was the most woodenly-acted, painfully clichéd, predictably stereotypical steaming pile o' shite I have ever seen. Out of ten, I rate it crap.

I realize only that you two have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe you should get an actual copy of the movie instead of one recorded on a cellphone.

While it is true that I am somewhat more discerning than the average movie viewer , I would have thought that anyone would have found that a torturous viewing experience.
I cringed for Eastwood.

In retrospect, the ending was completely logical, even though it was almost completely unexpected. Eastwood is a brilliant director -- and a brilliant actor too, I think.

I don't know about best ever. But it's definitely up there.
I especially liked that growly sound he got in his throat when he was getting pissed off and ready to do something rude.

&feature=related
How is this good acting? How is this a reasonable premise where the young Asian woman not only brings the grumpy old bigot into her house, but then brings him downstairs to hang with her homies? And what is up with Clint's acting as he "connects" with Tau? And Tau....Jesus H. Christ. At the end when Clint locks him in his basement, could Tau have less passion as he banged against the door? Possibly, but only after he died.
I don't know what the fuck movie those reviewers were watching, perhaps they were blinded by the fact that it was Clint's last movie, but they didn't review it honestly.

I'm sure you have watched many times more movies than I have in the last couple of years, probably some actually good, whereas I have seen perhaps four and three of them weren't as good as Gran Torino.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
Walt was a bigot, pure and simple. He was a total racist. He had no redeeming features. The whole premise defied logic, never mind the end. Perhaps the end was meant to demonstrate that he did have a heart of gold deep inside and he saw the errors of his ways, that he threw away eighty years of racism because the swamprat/gook/slant neighbours were nice to him. I need a lot more faith than the baby-faced 27 year old virgin straight out of the seminary had.

I think more than a few of us saw someone we know or knew and perhaps even loved in Walt, flawed character that he was. He reminded me of my mom's step-father, a crusty racist bastard through and through. Granddad's funeral was well-attended, though I'm sure there were a number of people that only went to make sure that old bastard was actually dead. To say he had no redeeming features isn't entirely accurate, he had family that loved him for some reason or another.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
I saw something called Lost In Austen last night , a three hour made for British TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. A modern day woman gets trapped in the story as it happens while Lizzie disappears to modern day London.
It was entertaining and clever enough. What I really found fun were the bad reviews of it by Austen lovers who can't believe anyone would dare tamper with the story. The very idea!!

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
Back home in the UK now and I watched 2 movies on the way back.
Brooklyn's Finest - I thought Ethan Hawke was excellent in this and Richard Gere was just blah. I'm not a huge Don Cheadle fan, but he was pretty good. Overall the movie didn't really connect the three story lines in the way I expected it, but that's no big loss really. It was entertaining enough, but certainly not spectacular. I would say 6/10.
Shutter Island - Leonardo DiCaprio was as good as he usually is and the story was interesting enough. The ending was a little too telegraphed but could catch some people by surprise. I don't know if I was just too tired by the time I was watching this, but it just didn't engage me much. I'll give it 5/10.

I loved Gran Torino too. On the other hand, I saw Picnic at Hanging Rock yesterday and it blew chunks. I'd take Crocodile Dundee 5: The Revenge of the Reptile over that wool-gathering yawn any day. Crazy lolstralians.

I've only seen the end of that so I can't really comment but geez, you people are crazy.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
Just watched Knight and Day. Wasn't my choice, I wanted to see the new Karate Kid but I was outvoted. At any rate it was better than I expected, and I think I had a good enough time to justify the petty cash, which I'm very short on right now. Fun action/explosions, some chuckle moments, Diaz acting(?) like a ditz, Cruise acting entertainingly insane, it was pretty enjoyable. Just don't go in expecting anything above average for an action-comedy and you should be pleasantly surprised.

TLM just told me today that if you liked Pineapple Express, you will also like The A-Team.
I haven't seen either, but I guess he has the DVD of Pineapple Express, so I'm a watch that soon, and if I don't like it, IT'S ON YOU.

We finally watched Role Models on the DVR. Highfuckinglarious. We missed three of every four jokes because three would fly by while we were still laughing at the first. Jane Lynch is a genius, of course.

Re: Seen Any Good Movies...?
I don't care what anyone else says about Gran Torino, or even about most of the movie itself. The end credits comprise everything I love about Grosse Pointe and Detroit in one beautifully-held static shot.
Also, saw Good Hair last week. Fascinating subject, told in an interesting and frequently funny way.
