Along that line, there are multiple stars. Shouldn't it then be a Stars War?

Perhaps, but typically compound nouns in English use a singular form for the first element if that element is a noun. If the first element has an irregular plural, it is more likely to use a plural element, but still probably won't.

Compare:

dogcatcher - catches many dogs
cat-lover - doesn't just love one cat
coat rack - holds multiple coats

toothbrush - isn't for just one tooth, but still we don't say teethbrush
mousetrap - could be able to catch multiple mice at once, but it's not a micetrap regardless

On the other hand, you can get some like people mover and numbers game and pants pocket.

There is some semantic motivation for using plurals in the first element in those cases where it's allowed, but from what I can tell it's a bit complicated. Aside from the case of plurale tantum (words like pants, scissors, alms) that aren't typically used in the singular at all.

But I would say that generally the use of a singular form, at least, does not imply much about the meaning. A "star war" doesn't imply that there was only one star involved/associated.

Returning to my thoughts from the announcement of more Star Wars and the release of The Force Awakens...

2. George Lucas seemingly won't be directing them and maybe won't even be writing them, so it's unlikely that they'll suck as hard as the prequels*. There's even a chance they could be good! The best two films (imo) are The Empire Strikes Back, which was not directed or written by Lucas, and the first one, which was written and directed by Lucas, but when he was forced to work with a relatively small budget.
This was very correct. It was definitely not worse than more Phantom Menaces and Attack of the Cloneses.

Overall the new movies might not have been seen as an especially positive development (not especially negative either) overall if we only had the original trilogy, although The Last Jedi is better than Return of the Jedi IMO. But the existence of the prequels changes that math. And if they manage to outdo TLJ with the next film...

Much better than the prequels with better dialog (although not without a couple cringe-worthy lines) and better acting and less over-the-top fight scenes. It doesn't match up to the first two films, IMO. It might match up to Return of the Jedi though (albeit largely due to the Ewoks rather than the bits taking place off of Endor's moon).
Upon more thought I'd say I'd mostly stick with my initial opinion that it was a little disappointing mainly in the overall plot, but it's still pretty good overall. My opinion of Rogue One has declined after a second viewing, although the highlights like K-2SO and that Darth Vader scene at the end were pretty great.

I also agree that it did have a kind of feel like they were traveling about haphazardly, setting up for the next movie where Luke will obviously have a much larger role.
TLJ definitely ended up being better than TFA. I'd probably say The Last Jedi is the third best Star Wars film at this point, but I haven't given it a second viewing yet.

I have yet to see Solo.

erimir is very smart and I agree with everything he says.

The Force Awakens is enjoyable but fluffy. The Last Jedi was generally well done but has some really big flaws. I'm finding Rogue One more re-watchable - at least right now - and not just for that Vader scene. I'm not too hyped to see Solo yet. Though I'm thinking about going today just for something to do.

It probably didn't help that my second viewing of Rogue One was with someone who strongly disliked it.

He also thought The Force Awakens was really good, in contrast to me being much more bothered by its plot being the third time they blew up the Death Star and other repeated tropes. I'm still bothered by that, but I guess it still has plenty of other positive qualities.

While I'm pretty sure of my top three, I'm less sure how to order the middle four (Episodes 3,6,7 + Rogue One) and the bottom two.

Speaking of the latter two... which is worse: The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones? One has Jar-Jar Binks and more goofy/racist-y elements, but the latter has Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman's awful chemistry and horrible dialogue.

IMO The force awakens gets a huge amount of leeway as it had the additional responsibility of showing the fans they understood why the first movie was enjoyed and that they could still do that. It would have been nice to not be a thinly veiled remake but that was the safest way to go.

Agreed on the second viewing, it's pretty clear there were two distinct movies being made here at the same time as some scenes and characters are just odd and out of place.

I... can't actually remember what happened in attack of the clones besides that there were some scenes that were almost physically painful to watch, so I think that answers that.
