Why is government taxing people differently, treating people differently, based upon how the parties have sex?

Soooo... You support legalizing same-sex marriage?
I'm a bit confused as to why you're taking an adversarial tone.

I support the government not choosing penalties and benefits based upon how people live their lives.
Most of the fools that support/against 'same-sex marriage' are just supporting a particular group over another group.
See, I believe all people are equal no matter what group *you* put them in.

You think the government should have marriage contracts, yes or no?
You think that those contracts should require an opposite sex pairing, yes or no?
(Also, you say that those who support gay marriage are "just supporting a particular group over another group"... what is the other group they are opposing or harming in some way?)

Those who choose not to marry and polygamists.
I can think of no reason one should be treated by government differently because they are *not* married.
Can you?

I pay less tax because I am married, how is that equitable with the person that chooses not to marry?

Very funny.
But the power to tax is the power to destroy - marriages included.

With promotion, U.S. Army welcomes first openly gay general
Quote:
During a promotion ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, a proud wife placed a star insignia on her spouse's uniformed shoulder — the official mark of an Army brigadier general.
With that simple gesture, Brig. Gen. Tammy Smith became the country's first openly gay general. [...]
Hepner and Smith got married last year in Washington, D.C. They dated for nine before that. Before don’t ask, don’t tell was repealed, they could not present themselves as a couple at military functions.
Smith is not active in gay and lesbian rights, but her wife is, Fulton said. As the Pentagon conducted a review of the policy, officials couldn’t speak to gay service members about their experiences without outing them. So they asked their partners and spouses instead. Hepner was one.

Yea, the repeal of DADT has not caused the major damage many predicted...who could have possibly known that it would not destroy us all for gay people to be gay??!!

As a recently retired Army Officer, I can accept a gay General Officer. Congratulations to BG Smith. However, it disturbs me that BG Smith lied about her sexuality when she requested appointment to the Army. Yes, I understand that lieing was the only way she could serve. However, what kind of lies will she accept? Can she accept a subordinate lieing about prior drug use to enlist? The military isn't comfortable living in a moraly ambigous environment.

Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
According to the article, she's been in the military for 26 years. She was in the military for about 7 years before DADT was the official policy. And even with that policy in place it was considered a security risk to be other than heterosexual. As a commissioned officer she could have been targeted and blackmailed for state secrets. At least, that's how the concern was always presented to me. Officially, anyway. Unofficially, ghey is unmoral and gross, mmkay.

The old Infidels logic page used that blackmail argument as its example of circular reasoning.

Obviously she did not choose to become gay until after the Nobammunists repealed DADT. Do you even care how GOD feel, BrotherMan? Do you?
