My guess is it's the same effect as combusting vegi oil soaked rags. Given a large surface area, and dry fuel the oxidation of the oil can produce enough heat to hit the low ignition temperature of hays and other brush. I'm betting the dryness caused by the high heat is as much a factor as the heat itself.

In Kuwait temperature reaches 62 degrees
When I first read this I was all like "Whoa, WTF!" so I went off to the internets, where our friendly neighborhood snopes.com reports

Quote:
Meteorologist Adel Al-Saadoun, head of the Fintas Weather Observatory, explained that the temperature has never reached 62°C in Kuwait and that these reports are just “fake news”:
“Do not believe in fake news,” warned meteorologist Adel Al-Saadoun, head of the Fintas Weather Observatory, as he debunked social media reports that temperatures in Kuwait reached 62 degrees. “It is fake news – not true,” Saadoun told Kuwait Times. “Kuwait has only recorded temperatures of a maximum of 52 degrees centigrade. Never in history has the temperature in Kuwait reached 62. As we speak now, the temperature is 49 degrees Celsius (at 2 pm yesterday), but people have been posting images of 54, 56 degrees – the temperature inside the car is higher, but not as per our weather monitoring system.”

Saadoun said the mercury will continue to rise in the next few days till the end of July, but by the beginning of August, the heat will start subsiding. “This has been the usual weather in Kuwait. This period is called the summer solstice. This is the period when the sun is right next to us up there, and we expect such weather in July,” he said.
Too bad, cuz this would have melted the fuck out of Greenland for sure. :sadcheer:

The European Parliament has voted to end visa-free travel for Americans within the EU.

It comes after the US failed to agree visa-free travel for citizens of five EU countries – Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland and Romania – as part of a reciprocity agreement. US citizens can normally travel to all countries in the bloc without a visa.

The vote urges the revocation of the scheme within two months, meaning Americans will have to apply for extra documents for 12 months after the European Commission implements a “delegated act” to bring the change into effect.

Eastern Ghouta has been under siege since 2013, leaving locals to rely on food produced locally or smuggled in through tunnels or across checkpoints.

While the area was once an important agricultural region for Syria, mushrooms were not a local crop.

“We learned about it by searching on the internet for places in similar [wartime] situations to Eastern Ghouta,” he added.

The removals began days after Google, which owns YouTube, trumpeted the arrival of an artificial intelligence program that it said could spot and flag "extremist" videos without human involvement.

It depends, at 70%-95% water fresh they aren't super nutritional but cooked down or dehydrated they start to pack some energy. 100g dehydrated button mushrooms is over 200 calories.

While we're used to vegi isle button mushrooms places that use them more heavily in cooking often use them dehydrated, which also allows them to store forever too.

Compared to meat perhaps. Compared to a lot of vegetables they've got tons of vitamins and protein, and better protein than grains which are almost pure gluten. Not a lot of carbohydrates, being mushrooms don't even have those, but they have something more like glycogen which I suspect isn't properly counted toward caloric content.

Just to clarify a bit, if I may.

Fungi (including mushrooms) do indeed make and contain carbohydrates -- though as mentioned, the tissues of a mushroom will typically contain much lower concentrations than those of plants or animals.

The cells of virtually all organisms will contain at least some carbohydrate in the form of glucose, since virtually every living organism metabolize carbohydrates (particularly glucose) for energy.

The cell walls of most fungi are made primarily of the carbohydrate chitin , but mammals can't digest chitin, so it doesn't count as part of a mushroom's caloric content.

Fungi, like animals, store excess glucose as the carbohydrate glycogen; glycogen content most-definitely should be counted as part of a food's caloric content, since we readily digest it into glucose. [I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some sellers fail to mention that little fact though, hoping that most people won't notice.]

(As an aside, despite their plant-like habits, fungi are much more closely related to animals than they are to plants.)

“Neo-Nazi, racist, anti-Semitic or homophobic bands should have no platform to promote their discriminatory attitudes and hate speech,” Abu Hajar said. “We would not consider the presence of such a band as an opportunity for a constructive exchange. Our refusal to share the platform with the representatives of an oppressive government is in line with the above understanding.”

“Our stand is not against a culture, but resistance against a discriminatory, colonial government,” Abu Hajar added, urging other artists to follow suit.

I'm going to guess there'll be mostly crossover on the Juggalo end. They're both mostly pathetic, uneducated white people who think they're being oppressed and that anyone smarter than them is dishonest and pretentious, and they have unhealthy obsession with angry, stupid figureheads.

I see more Trump supporters rejecting the Juggalos than the other way around.

I just...I hope someone documents the whole thing thoroughly, because I want to see it. From a distance, obviously.
