Hey, guess what! bey and I are on vacation, and we are leaving for a long train trip tomorrow. We're taking the
California Zephyr from Oakland to Denver.
Neither of us has taken a train trip longer than a few hours, but this time our journey is 33 hours, one-way. We're breaking it up, though, and flying home, because
33 hours? Jeebus. "Ring-ring! Hello, airplanes? It's trains. You win!"
We have a sleeper car for the first 22 hours, then we're getting off near Moab to spend 2 days with my mom. After that, we have just a little babby day-trip, 10 hours in coach the rest of the way to Denver.
I AM EXCITE
I kind of sort of don't know what to expect. I read all over the Amtrak website about the amenities and such, but I know it's not the same as being there. vm, others who have taken long train trips, what should we expect? What surprised you? Anything you wished you'd known ahead of time?
My friend at work said we should watch Murder on the Orient Express before we go, which, DERP!
What a great idea, I'm glad someone thought of it. So we watched that yesterday (the 1974 version), and we also watched the Casa Bonita episode of South Park, because of course we are going to try and get to Casa Bonita while we are there.
We actually have tons of fun and exciting stuff planned, but I don't want to get too into it and jinx it, so I'll give the full trip report when we get back.
