And now Trump is on tv speechifying on why Brexit is good for the UK. He's trying to ride the wave. The wave is the EU:

Utter surprise.

This is the impetus to drive the Scots out.

I hadn't even known about the status of the Ulster crowd. If Brexit pushes a reunification of Eire, then it will have accomplished the miraculous. Talk about unintended consequences....

If I were a citizen of say, Man, or Jersey, or Guernsey, I'd be pushing to disassociate myself from England. Mayhaps the Scilly citizens will jump ship?

And, Canada, Australia, New Zealand?....It's time to give a heave ho to all the 'governor general' crap and the dreary old lady pix on your currencies.

It's Time for London to Leave the UK

It’s a good argument; Scotland nearly left the UK in 2014 and it seems highly likely they will hold another referendum on leaving, and this time it will pass and Scotland will stay in the EU.

Going it alone dovetails nicely with the arguments of “British Firsters” and “Make America Great Again” types. If you say that Britain ought to be able to cut itself adrift from Europe and the rest of the world, you cannot on pain of hypocrisy deny that London and Scotland should be able to cut themselves adrift from the UK.

Similarly, if you want to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, and do all sorts of other deranged things, then I don’t think you can complain if the Blue States secede from the Red States and set up their own government. The U.S. has always been two separate countries, countries that were stitched together with bayonets during the Civil War. Maybe it’s time to make that split happen after all, and bid the Confederacy adieu.

Donald Trump and Boris Johnson: separated at birth?

Also, statement from Boris Johnson, LOL

Finally, it turns out that Trump, though he said he supported Brexit, actually cast blame for the result! Why would you blame someone for something you support? Shouldn’t you be giving credit instead?

And who is to blame, according to Trump?

Obama, of course!

Thanks, Obama!

Heh...

Overheard on the continent, late 2031:

"That's one of those Brits. They speak a language similar to American, only more amusingly than the Irish or the Scots. They don't get out much...they tend to be afraid of anything out of their ordinary. Poor sods."

I was going to add, but forgot, that the London flag should have a nice upraised middle finger instead of a sword. :)

I do think the bigger issue to discuss here, apart from the cheap demagoguery of orange-haired creeps like the Short-Fingered Vulgarian and BoJo, is about how the globalized economy has really left a lot of people behind instead of helping them; and about whether the globalized economy is sustainable at all over the long haul. Maybe local sovereignty is the future, even anarchism. :freakout:

If you're researching whether to leave the EU after you vote to do so, as opposed to before voting, you're uh, doing it wrong.

Much as we might be tempted to say "Happy trails, gtfo, and never come back," I don't relish the idea of my tax money going toward the massive U.N. peacekeeping force and economic bailout package that'll be necessitated by the inevitable devolution of the Sovereign Nation of Texas into a blood-soaked Hobbesian state of nature.

It seems that a poll has found that 'only' 33% support a Nexit. So only one in 3 here is a stupid idiot who can't find his own ass. I have to admit that is less than I thought.

The extensive land border probably makes a significant difference there.

Meanwhile...

While there would certainly be a lot of problems, especially for the people of Texas, especially the women and PoC of Texas, there are more upsides to this than Brexit.
  • Fewer GOP idiots in Congress
  • Basically no path to a GOP presidency without an ideological makeover
  • The US is big enough to bully them into accepting a trade deal favorable to the US. Texas won't be as able to keep racing to the bottom to attract employers from other states
