No, Mr. Tick, I expect you to die.
Pulled this tick off of one of the dogs yesterday. Mrs. Reasons threw it in the garbage, but I caught it crawling out this morning.
It was fair game, then.
I put it in 30% alcohol. After about an hour, it was still moving, so I increased it to 50% alcohol. That looked pretty good, until I put it on the slide and it started moving its legs.
It was clearly worse for wear, but man, what does it take to kill a tick?
Fire works, and is always fun.
Before the flames, I took a few pictures. Here's one.

On the plus side, if all vertebrates die out, the tick will, too.
Here's another - this one is at higher magnification and is a composite of 8 images focus stacked.

Its brain looks a little on the smooth side.

Re: No, Mr. Tick, I expect you to die.
I realized that it's not clear - these are all pictures of the bottom of the tick. Most of my rightside up pictures didn't turn out so well, although its mouth parts seemed pretty symmetrical, except for those round stubby feelers on the ends of each side of the "jaws".
I think I need to take some pictures of prettier things as a mental cleanser.

Re: No, Mr. Tick, I expect you to die.
Sorry, I wasn't beefing with the picture. It's quote from a great episode of The Tick.
The Tick got me through much of my doctorate.
