I get it that they are excited about new space phenomenon, but they can't REALLY believe that that would be MORE exciting than evidence of intelligent aliens.

Good point. Didn't consider the light speed lag. For all we know, it's now complete and they have an invasion fleet on the way to us.

How would they know that we are here, or do you credit them with some detection technology that can receive radio signals before the signals get there?
