Thumbup Intellectual Computer Visuals: Post Your Favorite Web Sites.

What are your favorites?

By "computer visual," I mean any type of static or dynamic image that takes advantage of computers as a means of creation and/or presentation, as opposed to painting a picture and writing about it. (We could also start another thread for traditional art...) "Intellectual" is a more elusive term and open to interpretation, but that's what makes it so interesting... It's safe to say that intellectual "art" may or may not be aesthetically pleasing because it's mostly intended to stimulate the mind in other ways. An optical illusion is a good example, but there are other ideas that fall under this broad category.

Here are some of my favorites:

M.C. Escher and the Droste Effect
http://escherdroste.math.leidenuniv.nl/
Escher drew this in 1956. In 2002 a mathematician solved the mystery.

Dr. Angry and Mr. Smiles

This was part of an MIT project. Should be titled, "Dr. Angry and Ms. Comatose."

Blue Ball Machine

4 megabytes. It's safe for work.

True Art or a Fake?

Brilliant idea! It could have been executed a little bit better, but it's still a worthwhile site. The comments at the end are funny.

Salvador Dali highlighted features

I'm not sure if this page still works because the computer I'm using does not have Flash. You might have to click around a bit.

Gyp's Surreal Art

Warning: None of these links contain wanky maths geekery, but all contain awesome computer-generated art, among other intellectually-stimulating things.

I wasn't trying to be elitist. I was only starting a topic that I thought may be of interest to some people here on FF.

Yeah, right, and the word "intellectual" is just in there because it looks pretty.

Well for what it's worth I never thought you were, Perry. Optical illusions and the like have always fascinated me and I enjoyed the links. Thanks. I'm sorry I don't have any to add.

I've seen a few of those before, but that Escher one is new to me. It's pretty cool.

Don't have any to share myself, though.
