Re: Save the 'Net
Hmmmm... I wonder if Europeans have net neutrality while the US doesn't, will Europe begin to surpass the US in web innovation?

Re: Save the 'Net
The Dutch parliament approved a law to preserve net neutrality here, except the dumbasses in the PvdA (Labour) and the VVD (Liberals) accidentally voted in favour of a plan by the fanatically Christian SGP and moderate Christian CDA which would give individuals the right to request a provider filter certain websites, so they need to make a new proposal and vote again

Get real. The only time you go forward in neutral is when you are going downhill or being pushed. I don't want to go downhill and I definitely don't want anyone pushing me around.

Is that just wordplay for the sake of wordplay, or are you actually saying that you don't think that neutrality is conducive to innovation?

Re: Save the 'Net
Certainly, but first we each have to go to a neutral corner and do something or other.

End of discussion really.
This is about a big a non event as when Metallica went after music pirates, only with less swashbuckling and sabre rattling.
Slow news day I suspect.
Al Gore invented the internet in the same way I invented the question mark. I love the idea though.
By the way the ? I may not of invented by me on a technicality, but I was pivotal in the invention of the semi colon, the Oxford comma, and of course Skynet.

Greenwald. As is usual for his writing, there are too many perceptive observations in this piece for me to be able to excerpt it effectively; go read the whole thing.

Re: Save the 'Net
So, remember that milquetoast net neutrality reg the FCC promulgated late last year? Even that p.o.s. was too much for the teabaggers. The House of Representatives passed a resolution disapproving the reg back in April (240-179). An identical Senate resolution will likely be voted on tomorrow.

Re: Save the 'Net
Get all your Wikipediaing done today because tomorrow is SOPA strike day. WordPress is going dark and I use WordPress for my blog but I have my own domain so it won't take me down. Should I go down voluntarily?

Re: Save the 'Net
It's more like PIPA blackout day now. SOPA's pretty much dead in the water, but the near-identical PIPA is still a real threat.
I can only say that if I had some internet property to take down, I'd do it. This is a huge deal, and anything that can raise more awareness of it is worth a day's worth of pageviews, IMO.

Reddit, Boinboing and Raw Story will be down too, but Wikipedia will have more of an impact obviously.

Re: Save the 'Net
All the Icanhazcheeseburger properties are also going black, which is really great because that's likely to reach a lot of people who probably don't know about it already. Reddit and BoingBoing and sites like that are mostly preaching to the choir, so it's especially good to see sites like those and Wikipedia doing it.
I suspect drusus blacking out would also reach some fresh eyes.

I haven't skipped a day in almost four years. The idea of it makes me feel kinda funny. Not like when we used to climb the rope in gym class, though.

Re: Save the 'Net
I can understand hesitating about something like that.
Do you know about this story, though?
https://plus.google.com/102057379055...ts/4oUsLDrgWpR
As bad as a situation like this already is, imagine if the people who are claiming they somehow own public property were given even more unchecked power to abuse.
LOL INBETWEENER CONFIRMATION HOORAY, but I'm still poasting so everyone can read that story.
Thank you mister drusus.
