Why would I. Nuts in brownies are good.

It's not like I would turn down a brownie just because it has nuts in it, but I do prefer brownies without nuts.

OK, I tried the recipe, what it didn't mention (although liv did allude to) is that these are fudge brownies.
Pretty close to the fudge I used to make as a kid.
Now I collapse from sugar overload!

I didn't just allude to the fudgieness; I went apeshit over it. Because it's awesome. So what horrible nut ruiners did you use?

Walnuts, lots of walnuts.
If I could make a perfect hybrid of fudge/cake brownie. I'd got apeshit too.
Like take the one you made (the fudge) and have it somehow on top of a cake like one, then I would achieve the perfect brownie, which seems to exist only in my mind. Because slapping some frosting on a brownie is disgusting, but the fudge like brownie would be a nice combination.

I better read more of "The Fat Duck Cookbook" so I can use Science!

Were these the same brownies I partook of Monday night? They were delicious. :yup: (Despite the nuts.)

Ha ha, here I was thinking you were insane for advocating walnut-free brownies; but FUDGE BROWNIES? I suppose the goal is to make them as repulsive as possible, like some kind of performance art or something. Know what else your recipe needs? Anchovy paste and gunpowder frosting. Then, you should set it on fire before serving. Like some kind of cookbook sequel to Ubu Roi.

You are like unto the Whore of Babylon, you and your nightmarish parody of brownies.

I'm not sure but I think this is the same recipe my mother used for brownies. I know that she used Baker's unsweetened chocolate. I've never had brownies that I liked as much as my mother's.

So I had like half a pint of strawberries left from my bounty delivery last week and they were fading fast. I had to throw half of them out because they went all mushy, so I decided to cook the rest.

Since I also have some buttermilk that needs using, I settled on this recipe only of course using strawberries in place of the raspberries. After reading the reviews which mentioned that the amount of batter you get makes a rather thin cake using the 9" pan called for, I decided to deploy ye olde barely-used springform bundt pan.

The reviews were right. The batter fits comfortably in a small medium bowl. When I plopped it in the pan, it went maybe 1/2" up the side. It does rise somewhat in the oven a little, but it's still a flattish cake.

I cooled it for 10 minutes in the pan as directed, but even so removing it from the bundt bottom was a challenge. And by that I mean that it pulled off in 3 pieces so it looks a mess, but that gave me the perfect excuse to nom a bit of it while it was still toasty.

Verdict: deeeelicious. Definitely guest quality, and as long as you have an electric beater, the labor is virtually nil.

Oh, and I neglected to do one thing my mom taught me about fruit desserts: tossing the fruit in flour before adding it to the batter keeps it from all sinking to the bottom. So the cake has a bottom layer of strawberries. It's no biggie, though, because a) fruit layer = yum, and b) it's such a thin cake there really isn't much space for the berries to be suspended in.

Oh, strawberries don't show here until June. I just got my first flowers on the plants this week.

I'm thinking of making this http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Beat-an...ke/Detail.aspx, unless anyone has any better ideas.

All right, so I hauled my ass out of bed and made two cakes this morning.

The same recipe as above. This one is glazed, instead of frosted, for those who don't like frosting:

This one has a butter cream frosting, and is decorated with jelly beans:

As for taste, I'll have to report later.

They were both delicious, but the glazed one was far more moist. I'd go for that one again.
