Step-grandfather, surely. Which, come to think of it, should be a thing. Too many people are without vital grandfatherly and -motherly services, and I am sure there are people who would be delighted to provide them. We should start some sort of adoption service.

I want to be a surrogate grandma. Daughter won't be giving me grandchildren so I'm missing out on the whole spoil-em-give-em-back game.

Would it be creepy if I started chatting up pregnant young women I see out and about?

Yeah, maybe a little. It would definitely be creepy if I did that.

My sister and I had adopted/step-grandparents in addition to the ones we were issued at birth. My usual term for that is "relative by choice". So, I now have a grand-daughter by choice and she has a grandpa by choice. She did most of the choosing though. Which is as it should be.

My yogurt maker thing randomly turned itself off last night, so I was finishing the batch manually, adding the yogurt culture, when I realized I think it was still too hot (which kills the culture), which I guess it was, so I ruined a giant batch of yogurt. Which I was making because I bought a giant box of mangoes that I want to make lassis out of.

And then I couldn't sleep because it's one billion degrees outside, and I was thrashing around and knocked my clock* on the floor and eventually left and sat on the couch so I wouldn't bother Matlock, and I fell asleep for like two seconds, which was just long enough to rack up my back real good, also there was a fucking mosquito in the house, I guess, and I itch everywhere and temperatures might get into triple digits today, and my back hurts, and having to bend over to pick up the clock this morning hurt extra hard, and I really shouldn't pour all that thick, fatty stuff down the drain, I don't think, because our plumbing is getting fussy, but what the hell else am I to do with it, and I need to do something with those mangos before they start to rot and attract fruit flies because I saw one yesterday and washed all the fruit in the house, but we're not out of the woods yet.

Everything is gross and smelly and dumb and summertime needs to eat a dick.

* It is a Chumby, OKAY?

Oh, hey, guys. What were YOU doing last night while Matlock and I were at this?

I think that Danzig has taken a fresh step in the right direction with this reunion.

So I was p. worried that Matlock would not like Riot Fest, because last year, I made my friend go for one day, and she kind of hated it, I think, and sat around getting heatstroke or something, and also Matlock only usually likes that music that's like guys with keytars singing songs about mystical dragons and shit, but GUESS WHAT. He had a good time!

The lineup wasn't as good and robust as previous years, but he really liked Suicidal Tendencies and Leftover Crack and Bad Religion, and a bunch of other stuff. I think I need to find him some Suicidal Tendencies on wax cylinders so he can listen to them in his car, in fact.

And I am much more confident about us going to Andrew WK next month. I was a little worried he'd be miserable and get mad at me or something, but now I'm thinking he probably won't.

(Tyler the Creator was really good, too. We missed part of it because he overlapped with Bad Religion, and I am not unconflicted about him because he sometimes says some hurtful things, but he is really good at saying hurtful things.)

How was Suicidal Tendencies? They were my favorite band in the late 80s, and still listen to "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow..." on a regular basis. Then, they started following the "funk metal" trend, and I drifted away... I haven't ventured back since, worried that they only got worse.

I'm also asking because there's a Megadeth/Amon Amarth/ST/Metal Church tour coming to Seattle at the end of the month, and I was never that big of a Megadeth fan, so I'm... uncommitted to going.

They were fantastic, and I would definitely recommend going. I'm pretty sure the setlist trended pretty old school, and the pit got huuuuuuuuge, which is a good sign. They were contenders for the best show we saw. It was a festival set, so only 45 minutes or so, but it was a pretty great 45 minutes.

I don't really like or listen to metal that much and am not a metal knowing person at all, but for me, anyway, it's almost always great live. Almost anything loud and fast is better live. So while I'm not a Megadeth fan at all, I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy a Megadeth show.

So I vote that you should go. I'll bet Matlock would back me up.

And do you ever regret going to shows, really? I've been to probably hundreds of shows, many of which were pretty meh, but I don't remember ever thinking I should have stayed home instead.

Preach. Also Mr Curses and I are going to see Kraftwerk tomorrow. I thought you should know that.

:yup:

I'd barely heard of Suidical Tendencies before Friday, and they straight-up blew me away. Superb show. The funk was limited to a few isolate bass riffs (which I liked on accounta long-time funk fan), but it didn't remotely get in the way ass-kickery. It was probably my favorite show of the weekend.

In other I-never-heard-of-these-fuckers-but-they're-awesome news:

- Leftover Crack. Killer set featuring at least five songs about killing cops.

- Underoath. Can transition from standard rock featuring complex 3-part harmonies to full-on thrash instantly. Amazing.

- Sleigh Bells. After Tyler, the Creator's set ended we got beverages and sat on the steps leading up to the indoor arena to rest our weary bones. We listened to the music pouring through the door and were all like, "Damn, that shit's good!" In we went, and we're glad we did.

Stuff I expected to be good and didn't disappoint:

- Jane's Addition. Was never really a fan of the band, but I've always been a fan of first-rate guitar playing. If anyone asks you whether Dave Navarro can still tear it up, the correct answer is "Yes."

- Bad Religion. These guys sound better than they ever have.

- The Misfits. They really did it! I was half expecting Danzig to get all hysterical over some nonsensical bullshit and storm out before showtime, but no!

- Julian Marley. I dearly loved Bob Marley and the Wailers back in the day. Julian and astoundingly good band did his fathers entire Exodus album at Riot Fest. Brought a tear or two to my eye.

Finally, big ups to Dave Lombardo, who did all the drumming for Suicidal Tendencies on Friday and all the drumming for The Misfits on Sunday, and did it all spectacularly.

Much jelly here. Love ST, never seen them live. Same goes with LOC. Saw Jane's Addiction earlier this year, I loved Dave Navarro's playing, definitely the highlight as Perry Farrell talked too damn much. I would have liked to seen this Misfits lineup. Maybe I will.
