I so want to see this series, but I lack HBO and work on Sundays. Hopefully if FiOS becomes available in the near future in my area, I'll be able to catch on it with ON Demand and record future episodes on DVR.

I watched it on the internets, and liked it muchly. I've read the books, but was impressed by this production.
Also, it really reminds me of Rome, what with the politcs and the death and the gore and the high tpm.

This series has exceeded my expectations in pretty much every way. Many of the actors are finding depths in the characters I didn't even know existed and the writing is about as good as can be found on television. My only complaint is that there are only ten episodes for the first season. I want more

I think Ned is a little bit overly kill-happy, and he disguises it with his whole "woe is me, it is my lot to wield the sword" bullshit. Yes, it made sense with the deserter, but the dog? There was no reason to volunteer for that except for showing off. He didn't pronounce the sentence, and he should have let the king delegate it to an anonymous henchman. It's like Dr. Hero on Lost when he had to shoot the marshal because Sawyer missed. So unnecessary! Dr. Hero would have been way less of a Mary Sue from the beginning if they'd just let Sawyer do the deed, and Ned's Mary Sue ass is just going to further make me crazy, I fucking know it.

I would say "clockwork" before even committing to "steampunky-but-not-too-much". But, anyway, I'm sure you noticed that it's a map? I found the map to be incredibly useful in following the books (they move around a lot), so maybe I'll leave this here for anybody following the show without the books.
Right now the King, Ned, and the girls are traveling south on the Kings Road from Winterfell to King's Landing, and Tyrion and Snow are traveling north to the wall.
I'll give it to you, those are hilarious! Also, I don't know how much the non-readers care about the niggling differences between the books and the adaptation, but if you're concerned about the Khal's rape of his young bride, it might make you feel better to read the recap. Short version, in the book it wasn't as rapey, but that's made up for by the fact that the bride is considerably younger.

I liked it. The only thing that I thought was poorly done was the order of events, with regard to Ned and the King riding South. They leave quite early in the episode (with Jon going north) but then when Arya hits Joffrey, Ned and Robert are suddenly back in Winterfell to decide Arya's fate and kill some puppies.
