Robots that fly and cooperate

This talk finishes with the video of the small quadrotor robots playing the James Bond theme, but there are some other examples first, along with a description of how the robots work.

This is a talk by Michael Parenti based on his book The Assassination of Julius Caesar: A People's History of Ancient Rome wherein he exposes and explodes the pro-elite assumptions that are commonly upheld by historians of the period.

When I first started watching, I thought for sure I wouldn't last past 5 minutes. I'm not really into watching long videos online, but I am into ancient Rome so I gave it a shot. It's riveting. By 45 minutes in I was bummed that there was only half an hour left to watch.

MARXIST REVISIONISM ITT! :shaketrotsky:

How dare he defame the memory of Gibbon, the greatest historian the world has ever known (just ask Seymour Lessans).

Anatomy for Beginners, in four parts of about one hour each (Movement, Circulation, Digestion, Reproduction).

I've watched the first two episodes so far, and they're quite informative for people whose knowledge of anatomy is sketchy, or who would like a more vivid demonstration than pictures in a textbook. The presentations center around human dissection, so if you don't want to watch that, stay away. There are also (living) nude models in case that makes a difference to somebody.

I'm placing them behind spoilers because the stills for parts 2 and 4 are rather graphic for some reason, and to help the page load faster.

I would also recommend browsing the rest of the poster's channel, which contains a number of science videos on various topics.

My mind is blowned. A man who suffered from severe seizures has his corpus callosum severed. Scientists (lying, I'm sure and gettin' me pissed) study him so they can understand more about how our brain works. It's damned fascinating. :spock2:

Interesting talk about how the arduino (open source programmable device) is being used in all sorts of applications ranging from earthquake detectors, radiation monitoring in Japan, to a chair that tweets whenever its occupant farts, and a house plant linked to the web so that people can water it when it's too dry and so on.

A nice cat feeder is also shown that uses microchips in the collars of cats to recognise which cat is nearby and then activates old CD-tray mechanisms scavenged from PCs to expose the correct feed to the correct cat.

I do not know where to put this. It is very short. It's going here anyway

Quote:
The movie depicts the real-time evolution of the local friendship network of CouchSurfers in San Francisco, from January 2003. One "slice" represents one month. There are two slices per second.

Blue ties represent friendships from outside the organization. Red ties represent friendships formed within the CouchSurfing organization. We have no information about grey ties.

The width of tie is proportional with the indicated strength of the friendship: i.e., from "acquaintance" to "best friend."
