Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
I have seen the pickle pocket and it is too cute! I passed on it only because trying to get the treats in the pocket seemed to wreck havoc on my nails. Plus, I usually steer clear of the ones you have to get special treats for and I couldn't think of what else I could shove in there.
The second one we have and it is known about the house as the Woobie. It is Sylvie's pride and joy. No one else is allowed to have it. She is much more of a chewer than a chaser and she will sit down and chew and chew and chew until she gets all the goodies out. The softer rubber Kong is using is great for that.
Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Jackson Galaxy would probably suggest monitoring their food (minor) and also play play play play play play (major). But mostly play. That's really his big thing. Not just toys for the cats to have but toys that allow you to interact with the cats.

Rare doges like this one?
But to be fair, it does take him a while. I used to buy him a new Kong every four months or so but he has a new favorite toy now. And he could tear it up, too, but he won't. I can't believe all the chipmunks still squeak.

Both our cats just got their yearly checkup and Ebony is overweight. Sophie is just fine. So at this point, we separate the two into different rooms with closed doors so they can't get at each--so Ebony won't scarf her food down and start on Sophie's food. I weigh their food, they both get high-quality kibble with water. Now Ebony is getting 1/8 ounce less each meal than Sophie. Hopefully that is a slow enough decline not to hurt her too badly, and fast enough to take off the extra 2-3 pounds that could injure her health.
And yes, Ebony has never been one to play as much as Sophie does.
Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Evil One is not really one for playing, but that may be because the other kittehs jump in front of him to catch the laserpointer. Maybe he needs his own play time.
Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Yeah, Sophie is a demon for the laser light, and Ebony mostly just sits there until it gets close enough to pounce on. It's all I can do to get Ebony exercised, mostly she just rolls over on her back to kick-claw the wand toy feathers.

We have 2 new doggies!
We went to the greyhound rescue last week to look at getting one dog, but Sou wanted Alice and I wanted Bryn and neither of us would budge so we got both! They did the house check a few days ago and we picked them up today
The rescue centre keeps two dogs to a pen, so they were able to have Bryn and Alice stay together for about week. They are getting along wonderfully and have had no issues at all so far. Bryn is similar to our old greyhoun, Bandit, in that he's so relaxed, he's like a gentle giant. Alice is much more energetic, curious and dominant. Sou wanted her because she's been at the shelter the longest, just over 2 years. Sou is a massive softie, she'd have taken them all home if she could have. Alice has a few problems (like she's aggressive to small dogs) but we'll work on them and she'll get there in the end.
Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Yay greyhounds! They're both gorgeous. I Sou so much for insisting on taking Alice. Now look what a handsome pair of hounds you have. Next up: the formal portrait.

Gizmo is at the babbysitters overnight and one of the other babbies is also named Gizmo and he's some yorkie or some shit like that, but he also has the brown and white face and perkie ears of both of their namesakeses.

Snapped this pic last night
That's our foster failure (foster dog that we couldn't bear to give up), Shellie, and the freebie kitty, Pip Squeak.
Pippy is becoming much more of a hunter than our last cat. Yesterday I heard a high pitch squealing by the door. I went to check and Pippy had brought a baby squirrel up to the door. I threw on some rubber gloves and checked the little guy out. Its eyes were still closed and it was curled up in a ball. It was still alive and didn't look hurt, I didn't see blood. The momma (or daddy) squirrel was in a tree nearby going nuts chattering and scrambling around and looking at us. So I took the baby squirrel and placed it securely up in the lowest crotch of the tree.
I took Pippy inside and watched from the window as the mamma squirrel came down and took the baby by the nap of the neck. She took it across the street and off into the woods.
Normally I'd encourage Pippy's instincts but that little baby squirrel was too cute and helpless. Plus it's momma was watching. Hopefully she'll go for mice and rats in the future.
I wish I had snapped a picture of the baby squirrel but I wanted to get it back to the mamma as quickly as possible.

I had a super realistic dream about Ripley last night. We were canoodling on the couch in my new place, and I had my face in her belly and I was saying "who's my girl? who's my girl?" and she was wriggling and being very happy. It was crazy how vivid and accurate it was with her weight and her heat and how the skin of her belly is, and it didn't even have any of that weird dream shit like she had extra limbs or was entirely the wrong dog or it wasn't my couch or anything. I'm thinking it was probably a premonition, because there is a 100% chance that when I see her again I will put my face in her belly and ask "who's my girl?" and she will wriggle and be very happy.
When I woke up I was too happy to even be disappointed that it wasn't real or that she wasn't there. I felt like I was gifted a bonus preview canoodle with her before her arrival. I want to believe she had the same dream.
Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Alice has managed to catch 2 birds in the last 2 days
The pigeon was just sitting in the back yard and she wasn't interested in it at all. Then the pigeon flew across the lawn aiming for a bush at the side of the yard. It pretty much flew right in front of her and she did one lunge forward, one big leap and snatched it out of the air. I got to her about two seconds afterwards and scolded her while telling her to drop it. We haven't had her long enough for her to learn that yet Sou heard me yelling at her so she came out and I held her and Sou pried her mouth open. Then the whole thing became like a terrible sitcom because we were so focused on Alice we didn't see Bryn standing right there So he grabbed the poor pigeon and we started all over again with him. After we finally had them both back in the house I killed the pigeon as quickly as possible
Then today when I let her out after their evening meal she almost immediately dove into the bushes, so I grabbed her and pulled her out but she had a smaller bird in her mouth already. This might have been a fledgling or maybe an injured bird because it didn't seem to scatter when she went into the bushes. This time she swallowed it down in about 3 seconds before I could stop her. If you've ever seen Kobayashi conveyor-belting hot dogs, it looked a little like that.
So back to the muzzle for her in the garden, she's a major danger to anything small that moves back there. The neighbours both have cats so we can't really take any chances. We had them muzzled when outside for the first month they were home, but we were hoping their doggie smells would now be keeping out the critters (which they may be, haven't seen any cats in the yard for a while now). I didn't think the birds were in danger, but it appears they are as well.
Now she's lying down and looking quite sorry for herself. I'm sure she's got a dodgy tummy. Poor girl.
Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Mayhem doesn't bring a lot of birds, lizards, mice or whatever in any more. It used to be every other day. Now it's once, sometimes twice a fortnight.
Anyway, a couple more cats that found us.
This is Tips. He turned up with the neighbours as a kitten when they moved in next door. Six months later they moved out and Tips was no longer a kitten. They left him behind. We had him desexed, but because he was scared of our dogs he never felt all that comfortable in our house or garden. We think he was adopted by some other family after a few months because he turned up on increasingly rare occasions.
And this is Tom. Like Tips, he has been abandoned by someone who lived just down the road. We had him desexed as well, and he too fears the dogs, but unlike Tips he keeps turning up. He is also an extremely affectionate big-time smoocher with a very loud purr. Whenever I walk from the car to the house door he overtakes me, then plops down on top of one of my feet and demands a tummy tickle. I try to look at him with an annoyed expression. Doesn't work.
In other news, Ruby had to be put down. Almost 16 years old, she could barely keep upright any more. Her rear legs especially got rather wobbly. She showed no sign of being in pain, though, so I was hoping she'd make it through another month or three, but when my partner saw her for the first time in two months, she was shocked by the deterioration and decided that Ruby has had it. It had sort of crept up on me because I saw the change in very small increments on a daily basis. Almost a case of the boiling frog, I suppose.
Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
I woke up to the smell of dog shit this morning, and was worried as Lana has never had any sort of accident in the house ever (which WTF? She was dumped on the street but perfectly housetrained?). She was snoozing in my room at the time. I followed the smell and poor baby had diarrhea in Kiddo's room last night, and she was so worried I would be mad...she did that guilty thing when she got up and saw me cleaning up. I hugged her and made sure she was alright. She seems fine now so I think she prolly eated something yukky in the yard.
