Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf

It's on there.

Jethro Tull's Songs From The Wood should be on there, but Billboard is a philistine, pigheaded organization. :hmph:

Damn, that WAS a good year. Bowie put out two albums, including Heroes. Pink Floyd released Animals, although they'd been playing better (imo) versions of those songs in concert for years. Steely Dan released Aja. Rush released A Farewell to Kings. Eno released Before and After Science.

Of the listed ones, I'll take Hotel California. Superb collection of Iggles tunes, plus I lubs me some Joe Walsh.

From that list, Wonder gets top for Pastime Paradise alone.

But Billboard can go fuck itself for a mostly tedious and backwards looking list while ignoring e.g. Donna Summer, Kraftwerk, The Ramones, Suicide.

And from the category of Things I Just Learned, Björk released an album in 1977 at the age of 12. Apparently not very good. Björk (album - Wikipedia)

I think I remember Billboard rankings were based solely on sales. There was no really discernment involved.

I went looking for some of my favourites and not much.

Sabbath - no album 1977
Zappa - no album 1977
Gentle Giant - :soso:
Rush - A Farewell to Kings

So I guess Rush takes it.

Of ones already mentioned, Pink Floyd "Animals" and Meat Loaf "Bat out of hell"

Also for consideration:
The Strangler's first album, Rattus Norvegicus
Peter Gabriel's first solo album
Ian Dury – New Boots & Panties!!
We won't mention Eric Clapton
Giorgio Moroder
Queen, News of the World
Talking Heads' first album
David Bowie – Low AND Heroes

Well, I was driving an 18-Wheeler back then, Had a 8-Track in it. I would plug in a tape and let it run. I went through three copies of Rumours, that year.

'nuff said.

But, there are always others worth mentioning:
A few of my all time favorites came from that year:

Jimmy Buffett – Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes
Neil Young – American Stars ‘n Bars
Meat Loaf – Bat Out of Hell
Talking Heads – Talking Heads 77
Bob Marley and the Wailers – Exodus
Electric Light Orchestra – Out of the Blue
Jethro Tull – Songs from the Wood
