You do know I am kidding about my mom, right? Do I need to have a "Warning, sarcasm!" disclaimer on every post?

Re: Miscellany
LOL I know that's a standard cover-arse for speech that is otherwise indefensible, but I am not sure what you want to achieve by it here. How far off the truth was everything you said about your mom, and why would you expect those of us who don't know the truth about your mom to recognise the humour?

I expect those that know something about me, and know anything about forms of humor involving exaggeration and sarcasm, to recognize the humor. And they did and do.

Okay, then that's an answer to your earlier question.

... only if you'd prefer not to give the wrong impression to those who don't know you.
Leaving aside for now the question of whether exaggeration and sarcasm are necessarily funny and nothing else; I don't see how you can claim that "I don't care" and "the old lady gets the place with the most acres of puke green linoleum the minute I think ..." are exaggerations of your real feelings unless you really feel that you don't much care for your mom's attempts to be helpful, and you really would happily put your mom in an institution rather than try to keep her out of one.

The dump waiving fees was not of much interest to me as I didn't have anything to take to the dump. I, however, thanked my mother for the information, in reality.
I would consider a high quality care facility for either of my parents only if I think it is in their best interests, because there are times that professional care is the best choice. It would not be something I chose happily, nor would I would consider it an option except in very extreme circumstances.
So I was being sarcastic by saying I feel things I don't feel (I do not want to put my mother in a home, let alone a nasty one), and I exaggerated my actual feelings of not caring, for humorous effect.

Re: Miscellany
My rents sent me some "treat money," as my mom calls it, so I can put my hoboness aside and actually buy something that isn't a kilowatt hour or a nutritional necessity. New hand mixer, here I come!

Re: Miscellany
Is that not hand mixer size? I'm used to seeing the huge industrial ones you can put several children in.

Re: Miscellany
No way, mans. Hand mixers are pretty small. Here's the one I got. It's purty, solid as a brick, easy to clean and it comes with a whisk attachment.

FINE I DON'T WANT IT ANYWAY. Srsly I don't. They're just too big for my kitchen, despite their undoubted usefulness.

Re: Miscellany
They are wonderful, but sometimes it can be overkill to use it on a small job. A hand mixer would be handy.
As it is right now, we have six different whisks for the smaller jobs. Yes. 6.
Two heavy duty whisks, one silicone coated, one small whisk, a folding whisk, and a ball whisk.

Re: Miscellany
yay for rents who send "treats money"!!
delighted that you have a new addition
to the tool kit.....
a woman i knew who had been an instructor
at the local tech college's culinary program
and later ran a very successful confection
"shoppe" was wintering in arizona, and was
informed in a phone call from her daughter
that her attached garage had been broken
into and her car was stolen....
her only concern....
"did they steal my kitchenaid?!?!?"
man on man did she make the most
elegant petits four glacés....
wherever it is you are now, ruth...
i hope they have a kitchenaid....

Re: Miscellany
Hey, you gaiz! Guess what I did last night!
GOT IN A FIGHT WITH BUDDY! AND I WON!
I was sitting on the couch, and he decided he wanted this cup on the side table, so he climbs right up on top of me to get to it, and I restrain him, and he acts like I'm just some kind of inanimate obstacle he has to overcome. He was all wiggling and straining and stuff. He even growled at me and scared ZZ. I think she thought she was going to have to protect me from him.
Seriously, I have never had such a naughty dog before.
I've been giving him a pass because he's old and deaf and little and stuff, but I'm going to have to suck up and teach that boy some manners. He's like a caricature of a stereotype of a terrier or something. He sets his mind to something and does not give a shit about anything other than His Goal, whatever it happens to be.
I suspect it's partly that little dog thing, where little dogs act like assholes because people just restrain them rather than teaching them to not be bad; but also? He crazy.
I do have to admit, though, it's kind of hilarious when he's being naughty, so I can also see the temptation to let him act like that just for the lulz.
Pray for me! This is going to suck!
