Not even to protest Firefly's cancellation?

Oh man, you have got to watch Firefly. The whole series and then Serenity. Unless you've already seen Serenity, in which case that's fine. They stand alone well enough.

The last three episodes of Angel were bittersweet, naturally. I watched every single episode of the entire series in chronological order over the last six weeks. I don't know why I waited so long, either. Not only is it an excellent show on its own, but large chunks of the first couple of seasons (and a few later episodes) were like "Buffy: The Lost Episodes". Joss Whedon is a genius.

Spooky. I started watching them from season 1 as well on June 25, and it took me until about a couple of weeks ago (after which I started with Buffy).

You'll get no argument from me there, I am just amazed it took me until this summer to ever see anything of his! I discovered it though watching Bones and obsessing about Boreanaz.

That's funny, I saw a few episodes of Bones after having seen all of Buffy and no Angel yet, and couldn't stand it - largely because of his character.

I have sort of a similar situation in reverse. Because of my backward take on the whole Buffyverse thing, I sort of see Buffy as a prequel to Angel and spent the first season or two wondering "Who is this wimp and why is he all infatuated with that bitchy brat who is treating him so badly?"

It looks like being sent to hell did him no end of good.

I am halfway through Season 3 of BtVS now.

It's not just Angel, either. Cordy and Wesley both experience significant shift from bumbling airheads to sophisticated characters in Angel. It's funny when Willow and Buffy come to LA for a visit and seem (in contrast) to be emotionally arrested in high school.

Yeah, I am just begining to get that..now...finally... Not having really seen them before, I was a little lost when it came to them.

I just saw the Wesley intro episode today, and after just having finished Angel, including that series finale, well, it is hard to believe it is even the same actor!

My pleasure. We were long overdue for a Joss Whedon worship thread anyway.

I shall likely post (pay tribute) daily. :D
I am working tomorrow, and the afternoon should be slow, so I am planning on watching a few episodes on my portable DVD player I bought for that purpose. When done with Buffy s.3 I will start on Firefly, finally.

I hear ya. When he first showed up on Angel I was praying he was just passing through, but before long I was glad he stuck around. I grew to really love Cordy too, despite hating her on Buffy. (I never really saw much BTVS when it aired, either. I watched a couple seasons of the reruns on cable and then all the dvds once or twice - 2 or 3 years ago.)

I agree.
Although Joss Whedon is cool, I also think the actors he chose made both of those series (haven't seen firefly yet, yes I know, I'm bad). Ironically practically every actor eventually outshinned Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) who IMO wasn't well prepared for anything outside the high school kid role.

So true, Ari. The worst was when she complained about her pain. Remember the epsiode when The First was giving Angel shit and he decided to kill himself via sunrise? I'm amazed he didn't stake himself during the wait.

I loved Buffy, never seen Angel. But I can tell you that Firefly is nothing short of pure genius!

Do you have all the DVDs of Buffy? I have been wondering whether or not to invest in the later seasons. Angel is hardly in them at all but the upside is Spike.

:boythink:

Buffy gave Angel a lot of shit throughout.

I have all the dvd's of Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity. :pleased:

I think it's worth watching the whole series (even the crappy episodes), but I'm probably biased.

while i dont own the dvds i do believe i have seen every episode of both angel and buffy. they used to come on fx like all the time. that was good times.

anyway. by the last season i was a huge angel fan. the last story arc was so fucking good. it was such a shame that it ended.

My only wish is that Whedon could had gone on with the spinoff Buffy series idea "Faith" with Eliza Dushku. I know it won't happen now, but it would have been great, especially if Spike went along for the ride.

I read talk of a Spike-Illyria spinoff from Angel. I would love to see that come to fruition.

Spike! Spike! He's our vamp. If can't curl your toes, no one can!

Actually, BtVS was a little too chessy for me and Angel wasn't far behind. But both were watchable.

Firefly, on the other hand, is Whedon's opus! Pure genius! I was very sad to the end of that series. I have yet to find any one that has seen the series that didn't like it.

Absolutely, happykat! In fact, Hubster and I are in a custody dispute over the DVD's.

I never got into Angel or Buffy, but Firefly has to be among the greatest shows ever made. I acquired the entire series and watched the entire series repeadedly for several weeks. Some episodes, like Shindig and Heart of Gold, I watched just over and over and over. Also Out of Gas I've seen about 20 times. I usually dont' re-watch or re-read things more than once or twice, but Firefly is an exception to that rule for me, which puts it in the same class as Harry Potter and Star Trek.

In conclusion, Joss Whedon is God.

Several of the Firefly actors were crossovers from the Buffyverse, I've come to learn. I already knew Mal played a psychotic killer priest in BTVS, but until recently I didn't know that Zoe and Jayne had key roles in seasons four and five of Angel, respectively.

Heights to aspire to. I shall order seasons 4 & 5 anyway, we'll see about the last two after that.

I just saw the last 7 or so episodes of BTVS season 3 today, and I think there are some excellent episodes in that season! I was also delighted that Angel finally aquired a spine.

So I should be starting Firefly on Monday, or perhaps even tomorrow. If there are Angel actors in in I know I will be thrown off, but at least I have warnings now.
