Then don't dwell on it. I got fired once, they never told me why which was more frustrating than anything else about it. Did you get a reason why?

Sorry to hear that G. Productivity, lol. It's okay, you might have lots of different jobs ahead of you, who knows? So what are you gonna do now?

Re: What's up with you?
We are getting them for brush control, since my backyard is akin to SE Asia and renting a bushhog is like 100/day. Milk will be a bonus, I guess I need to learn to make cheese and soap
Also, they have doubled in price recently, to 75.00, because a lot more people are buying them for food. Fuck investing in gold* in a bad economy, buy goats!
*which, WTF? In a totally collapsed economy, what good will gold do you? It can't nourish you, it can't keep you warm, it can't keep the rain off your head, and if EVERYONE is starving and shelterless why would they trade food or clothing for gold? Some lady the other day said she was going to put all of her cash in gold if Obama is re-elected because our economy will collapse. I must be really naive and money stupid because I sure don't get it.

Re: What's up with you?
I like to read stories about California during the gold rush. It was great if you could find a bunch of gold and send it home or take it home, but in the local area it was so abundant as to be completely worthless. Food and supplies could be sold for a fortune in gold, which is how people like Levi Strauss made it big. I don't know of it's apocryphal, but I heard tell of men walking into the saloon and brushing clouds of gold dust off their bodies like it was trail dust.
But yeah, hahaha, you can't eat gold. When these idiots are starving, you can sell your goat cheese for whole bricks of gold.
But, seriously, goats for food? Damn, we're getting closer to the Hunger Games than I realized. Anywho, here's another plug for my internet friend who has a farm in Kentucky. She breeds goats and makes cheese and yogurt and stuff. She's a city girl chasing her childhood dream, so there's a whole lot of "learn as we go" on there and it's pretty hilarious, but also maybe helpful to learn from her efforts.

Re: What's up with you?
Hey, don't knock cabrito. That stuff is good eatin'!
I had a friend whose dad had goats on their suburban "farm." Mostly they were for brush control as well as a sweet ag exemption for property taxes. I once ordered cabrito when we went out to dinner. When she realized what it was she freaked the fuck out. But even she had to admit, it was delicious.
Also, I am not sure if I told you this, but I am in love with your friend's blog!

Re: What's up with you?
Aren't both goat and sheep meat considered mutton? I've not tried goat, and because American rarely eat lamb (a rack or chop sometimes), but mutton is a staple many places in the world
I'll bet the locals buying them for food are Mexican. Our new laws making it illegal to be Mexican led to a mass exodus, and they are rarely seen around town anymore...but there are still farmers who need pickers and I am sure some are still here, just living invisibly on people's back 40 or whatever. Having some milk and meat would be a good way to do that.

Re: What's up with you?
I second Demi's recommendation of goat meat. Properly cooked it is delicious.
Also, goat meat is not mutton. Mutton is the meat from adult sheep. Some people use the word for the meat of both sheep and goats. Those people are wrong. Cabrito is the Spanish word for the meat of young goats. Chevon is the French word that is most commonly used for the meat of adult goats.

People don't like to say they were fired, so it feels like you're some weirdo loser when it happens to you. I was fired once, too. It sucked, even though I really didn't like working there and was glad on some level that I didn't have to go back.

I grabbed a few applications for hometown grocery stores. I wouldn't mind stocking shelves or cashiering, still, so long as it was somewhere else.
Housekeeping also sounds nice. Or some sort of restaurant. Something.
Anything pleasant.

Re: What's up with you?
You're welcome (I was joking, BTW, hence the wink). I've never had goat so I don't know except what I read on the Internet, though I thought it might possibly be like venison, which applies to deer, elk, and moose.
I don't think I will raise goats to eat. I wouldn't know where to get it butchered or anything. I looked into buying live beef once, and could not find a licensed processor nearby, but if I want milk I will have to do something with kids, which probably means selling them.

Welp. Filed for unemployment. Found out my last check will be 772$ since it was time for a yearly bonus. So, at least I'm not terribly poor.

Goats aren't very big. You can butcher them yourselves. It would be an opportunity to acquire some skills that will be useful when the collapse comes. Great educational project for kiddo.

I doubt Kiddo would find it untraumatic. He strikes me as very tenderhearted when it comes to animals.
Gonzo, I find it very hard to believe that it's a coincidence that someone asked you about your sexuality like 2 weeks ago and now you've been fired. Fuck those guys.

Re: What's up with you?
Who asked Gonzo about his sexuality? Did you post about it Gonzo? I missed it.
Also, Kiddo will totally fall in love with the goats so I don't think we can butcher them ourselves, yet. Though he has expressed an interest in hunting, it's very abstract (that thing that Papa B does on his days off) and I just don't think he has the constitution or maturity, yet, to get bloody.
