As loathed as Wesley Crusher was, Wil Wheaton is one cool guy.

As loathed as Wesley Crusher was, I was always a fan. I think I was the right age for it, ages 10 to 16 when the show was on the air.

He was a teenaged know-it-all IN SPACE! What was not to love?

The truth is, Wheaton was kind of a dick to his fans at that time, but he grew out if it.

I have room in my heart for Wesley Crusher, I just blame the writers for way over-playing the Deus Ex Kid Genius angle. He's a lot more likable in the episodes where he's, like, a human kid, with faults and awkwardness and stuff, even if he is very bright on paper.

Yeah, it's not that the character was obnoxious or anything, it's that the writers had everyone else -- supposedly intelligent and highly-trained Starfleet personnel -- behave like brain-dead idiots whenever he was around.

Even Wheaton has said that he thinks this was obnoxiously-bad writing, and that he understands why the character was so loathed.

That was the first episode of Supernatural I watched all the way through. I was pretty much hooked when they went old school Shoemaker and the Elves with it instead of a more modern take on elves.

And for some reason I just started imagining little fey creatures wearing white spangley jumpsuits with big pompadour hair. I don't know why.

I've seen them all now. I saw a little bit by chance in a hotel room while at a conference. I expected the TV to be showing Angel when I got out of the shower because I didn't realize they didn't adjust for time zones. I left it on while I got dressed for background noise and was kind of intrigued. A few weeks later I actually remembered to check out a full episode and that was it.

Then I went back and caught up and I've kept watching going forward. Except for much of season seven, which really was a low point. Season eight was back on track for the most part so I'm enthused again.
