Re: Miscellany
I think pea would have worded it better. There's the niggling clash between the singular 'owner' and the plural 'their' - I never know how to avoid that problem myself, but pea is super smart and articulate and would doubtless have found a way.

Re: Miscellany
Hmm. I don't think that's plural 'their' - it's the (not universally accepted) gender-neutral singular third person 'their'. We'll have to wait for pea to explain her usage to us lesser writers.

Re: Miscellany
Sadly, of all the dingleberries who sign up with my email address, I haven't gotten access to a whole website yet. A couple of accounts I couldn't stop emailing me, but not a site where I could leave a public message like that.
And since I guess I'm being interrogated now! I am OK with the singular 'they/their,' and I make typos all the time, which I'm guessing is what happened with those quotes. Like, they were going to say something like, "when you sign up with "your" email address, first make sure..." and then went back to reword it and just forgot to take the scare quotes off. That is 100% exactly the main thing I always do.
I feel like that person is my friend right now.

Re: Miscellany
As a surly pre-teen I disliked basketball as much as any other organized sport. I was also awkward but polite, so when my Boy Scout troop volunteered at a rest home, I politely listened to this old lady talk about her son, a famous basketball player. I had no reason to disbelieve her, but she was probably mildly disappointed that I didn't know who her son was, nor really cared very much.
It's not like I wasn't somewhat interested, but I didn't know of him, wasn't interested in basketball, and so the conversation got kind of stuck after that. I mostly remember it as an awkward moment.
Today I'm listening to 99% Invisible, and they're talking about basketball, and some design decisions about the game. They're talking about a central figure in early basketball, a huge "goon" famous for being the source of the goaltending rule, among other significant historical events in basketball.
The name is familiar to me, but not because I have become a fan of basketball since my childhood. Nope, I had met George Mikan's mother back in the 1980s, and had I known anything about him, I may have actually had a decent conversation with her about him.
Well, I hope that she'd be pleased that someone remembers her, and realizes 30 years too late that he met the mother of someone who has quite a lot of historical significance, and that basically everything she told me was pretty much true.
(Actually, this same thing happened about 10 years ago, when I stumbled upon a history of the ABA.)

Re: Miscellany
Oh, good. I was starting to run out of things to be mad about.
Some shitty recipe website I made an account on and used exactly once about ten years ago is doing some big overhaul or something now, part of which involves changing the anonymous auto-generated username it made for me lo these many years ago to a new name, based on MY EMAIL ADDRESS and then generating a fucking profile for me that it is not allowing me to modify or delete. To even get in, they're trying to make me tell them my birthdate and my gender and a bunch of other shit, and their email form has a mandatory field for what fucking ISP I use. (BTW, my birthdate is -1, which was the first selection in I shit you not their SINGLE FIELD DROPDOWN LIST OF BIRTHDATES; and my ISP is "None")
I sent an email to support and told them to delete my fucking account and that I do not agree to the terms and conditions of their site. And if my account is not fully deleted by the time I feel like getting around to it, I'm going to flood them with recipes for dick cheese quesadillas and ass banana pudding.

Re: Miscellany
That is just a normal party where you arrive at the supply room and pick up your accessories from the steel shelving, then get a small styrofoam cup containing a beverage, and communicate with small groups of people.
The weird thing is that you even found that story. What were you doing? Just poring through old articles on Business Opportunities | Find a Business Opportunity

Re: Miscellany
It looks like it might be a sort of weak-sauce "fun", but only up until the point where someone breaks an ankle.

Welcome to build a goth.
Please choose a platform size and mingle uncomfortably while we prep the Vinyl coat.
Vinyl spray comes in black, blacker black, glossy black, red, glossy red, dark red and glossy red black with flames.

So if someone quite tall turns up late, everyone has to switch to taller platforms mid-party? Such fun!
