Hot as fuck. 75 today, on its way to 80 over the weekend. It's also dry as fuck, with a red flag warning (critical fire weather conditions occurring) in effect.
This shit just ain't right.

First step is to disconnect it, and then figure out why it got waterlogged.
There are outlet covers for outdoor outlets that are supposed to be waterproof, if there is something plugged into it all the time, see if there is a hood that will keep the rain out.

I have over 2 acres of woods, no lawn and no lawn mower. When we were getting our new house built the builder mentioned that he was going to have some top soil hauled in and plant some grass. I asked if he was going to mow it and when he said "no" I said I wasn't going to mow it either, so he canceled that idea.

I guess that's in the foothills.
Here, down on the valley floor, it's just damp.

Sorry, I thought it was clear that it was soaked because of the 2 months of rain that we have had. That's why this is in this thread. There is nothing plugged into it at the moment, and it certainly is supposed to be water proof, but it is old and very very wet out there. Anyway, I will be disconnecting tonight so I can restore power.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
We're experiencing blustery high winds. I think we've already lost one broadcast television station to a tower malfunction. I expect reports of power loss as the storm passes through, they are already being reported. Downed trees will be a common situation.
My screen and lights flicker.
We're getting a big blow job.
Oh, and it's damp again.

This is why I advocate a law that prohibits trees >20ft tall within 50ft of power lines. That or more power lines need to buried (appropriately marked) even in rural areas.
The trees have gotten so ungainly where I live that you can almost guarantee a power outage from passing gas outside.

Heh...Much of that is due to developers.
The predominant tree locally is the Douglas fir. They are huge, but shallow rooted trees, which depend upon others in a grove to withstand high winds. A kind of "lean on me" support between trees.
However, along comes the human developer who clears away most of the Douglas fir, but leaves a couple, or a few single, mature trees amidst the all the newly constructed homes. It makes it 'look right'...rather like a rug that pulls the room together, y'know?
Anyway, this is a sucker set up, because under conditions of water saturated soils (well, that doesn't happen here in the pissy nerdfest, does it?) and high gusting winds, the isolated mature Douglas firs with shallow roots become behemoth hammers coming down on those homes down wind. Roots up!
Nature and style working together to destroy homes built by morons.
I understand that there is resistance to subsurface electrical lines because of the prospective techtonic activity. Fixing such problems is doable, but locating the problem is mucho buncha more difficult than butt-ugly elevated wires. I personally think they should bury cell towers underground; all of them.

It was 78º in the house this afternoon, barely less than it was outside, uncomfortably warm for a day sleeper. at other Dingfodian house dwellers.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
5+ inches of rain are forecast for Friday night. Not a 70% chance of rain, or 80%, but 100% chance of a deluge. Flooding will be the theme of the night, if tornadoes don't upstage them.

It started raining here a little while ago, and this is the gist of a real true "conversation" that inspired:

The other guy--Army guy--walks up, and I'm thinking he's coming up to ask for money because that is what he usually wants, but he says he and [Edgar] are thinking about getting a campsite--they're $12--and sleeping out in their sleeping bags for the night because they really like just getting away and going camping sometimes, and he wants to know if I can look up what the weather's supposed to be for the next couple of days. I check and my weather app says it's going to rain for the next two days, which I tell him, and he says, "Welp, better start camping tonight."

It has already stopped raining, though. Maybe it will start again.
And weather is no longer a safe, extricable subject for small talk.

Re: How's the fucking weather where you are?
Just looked out the office window and saw that it's snowing like hell. 6-12 inches of wet, heavy, tree-destroying snow expected tonight and tomorrow.

We had rain turning into snow this morning then back into rain/drizzle in the afternoon and evening. The snow didn't stick but it was there. I saw it!
