I went to log into an internet place for work that I rarely log into because I only need to log into said place on a quarterly basis. However, this place deems themselves important enough to have you reset your password on a more frequent interval then quarterly; even if you only use it on a quarterly basis.

Once again, I must request a password reset and wait until they send me an email. It's happened enough I don't even bother resetting the temporary password anymore. I use it, log in, and wait until the next quarter comes around to get another temp password.

Most secure web login ever.

Remember when I was complaining about getting profiled at Home Depot?

I had to go there again today, looking for a vent cleaning kit and some root killer, and I couldn't find either one where I expected them to be. But then an employee asked if he could help, so I told him what I was looking for, he wasn't sure what they were, so I explained, and he told me some place on the total opposite side of the store.

Which sucked, because my feet are fucking killing me and it's a bigassed store.

But I went over there, and the guy had sent me to the household cleaning aisle.

Don't understand what I'm talking about? OH, IT'S PROBABLY SOME KIND OF MOP.

I thought you;d be able to crack together your own rootkit killer. But what would a Linuxer like you need such a thing? Neverminding the silliness of looking for computer stuff at a home improvement store.

I'm watching a documentary on History Channel tube and they have Russians talking. But when they do the voice-over, it's English with a fake exaggerated accent. Why? What's the point? This is so completely retarded that I cannot imagine what they want to achieve.

"OK, it's distracting and you can't understand what they are saying quite as well, but we have to remind you that these people talk funny".

One of those dumbasses who uses my email address signed up for Credit Karma the other day, and they would not stop sending me nag emails, so I found the first email, which had a link to click if it's not your account. But that link just takes you to this page (with a user ID that I edited out, but it's the same page).

So from there, you have to select the option to cancel your account, which brings up a new menu that includes the option "I started receiving emails from Credit Karma and I have never visited the Credit Karma site."

Scroll down. You cannot select that option without providing your name and birthdate. The "I've never visited your site" option.

So my name was NA NA and my birthdate 00/00/0000, and I STILL had to go through THREE FUCKING ROUNDS with their fucking shit customer support demanding my name and birthdate in order to get them to stop fucking spamming me. Of course, I didn't give it to them, but then again, I don't even know that I'm actually off their spam list.

BTW, it's entirely possible I know the full name and birthdate of the person who tried to sign up, so that's some ass security they've got there, too.

So yeah, don't use Credit Karma. They're a sketchy company to begin with, but they're also completely incompetent.

Oh, hey. Also this time.

Our hall bathroom sink was pretty much totally disintegrating, like it was going to blow away if you sneezed too close to it, and it had one of those ugly faucets with the acrylic handles, you know, with the loosely fitting buttons on the top that collect slime and then fall off permanently. I fucking HATE those kinds of faucets.

So obvs, I just needed to plop a new sink and faucet in there.

There was an entire drama about the size of the sink hole and the fact that THE SPECS ON SINKS ARE CONSISTENTLY FACTUALLY INCORRECT, but I did eventually find a sink by making a guy at Lowe's open up a sink in a box so I could measure it myself to confirm it was, in fact, larger than what it said on the box. (It was. Why they all lie like that?)

And I got a really cool new faucet from Habitat for Humanity Restore, and went to put that on, and, oh, weird water supply connectors. Never seen them before. So, against all my better judgment, decided to go to Home Depot. It's really, really close, and it was hot and I got no air conditioner in the car. But based on past experience, I a) brought the faucet with me because I knew they wouldn't take my word for anything, and b) made Matlock go with me so they wouldn't trick me into buying a kitchen remodel or some weird mop.

So we don't see anything, and we ask an employee, who I think might actually be the guy who sent me to the cleaning products that last time. I take the faucet out to show him and start unscrewing the sleeve that goes under the cabinet, and he yells, "That's not supposed to come off!" I patiently explain that yes, it is supposed to come off, and he GRABS it out of my hands and starts tugging at it, then gives up and starts unscrewing it, like I was doing, but sloooooower. Then, he looks at the connectors and gets all agitated. We don't have that! It was supposed to come with that! Matlock starts explaining to him where we got it, but I stopped him because I didn't want to get in some dumb side discussion with this guy, and I said, "It doesn't matter. This is what we have, and you're saying you don't have the part we need?" He confirms that, no, Home Depot does not carry hardware products. Only kitchen remodeling services and mops.

So we left and poor Matlock ended up having to hook it up with an old suboptimal faucet because I had said too many swears about it* already, and the aerator immediately fell off! So I went back to the internet and started throwing random search terms at it until I discovered that I THINK maybe what I need is a 3/8 compression to 1/2 MIP adapter, which is a fairly common part, and I am going to go to a REAL hardware store to get it so I can install the new faucet.

Good grief, though. I am not a plumber, and I don't know plumber things, but I have done much larger jobs than this in less time. I had a massive plumbing failure at my first house once, called out of work on Friday, and replaced all the internal water lines in my whole (admittedly tiny) house once by Monday, by myself. I have replaced multiple sinks and faucets and stuff before! But replacing a single, basic assed bathroom sink took longer than that, and poor Matlock had to do all the hard parts, and it's STILL NOT DONE.

* It is best that one person do the work, and the other stay with the dogs to comfort them from all the swears.

Correction: No working air conditioner.

It's probably easily fixed (HAHAHAHA get it?), but that is low priority. That car's pretty much got a DNR on it at this point. Like, I lost the gas cap for totally valid, legitimate reasons, and we questioned whether we should sink $7 into a new one. (We did.)

Plus I like having it as a handy excuse to not go driving all over creation looking for dumb faucet parts.

Some fucking telemarketer tricked me into answering my phone and asked me if I was "Mrs. [Matlock]."

I hate telemarketers, I hate people calling me "Mrs.," and [Matlock] is not my fucking name. Also it was a plumber, and I own the house, not him, so what kind of shitass datamining are they even using here? Property records are super low-hanging information. How do these idiots get that wrong?

On the other hand, it would be pretty cool to have square brackets in your name. And require callers to pronounce them correctly.

Because the property values are going up around here lately, a bunch of speculators have been cold calling and mailing and texting every damned day asking to buy the house. I figure they're going after anyone who has owned property for a while but who hasn't actually looked into the current market value. Pretty much trying to trick old people into selling their houses way below market rate.

Fucking every day lately. Those fucks.

So, you know, I'm searching for adapters, as you do. A something to something adapter, doesn't matter what. Hoping to find something at a nearby brick and mortar store because hope springs eternal and all. Literally no website on the internet will just tell you they don't have something. They'll just come back with results for completely different shit, even if it's completely nonsensical.

Best Buy, for example, rather than admitting they don't have any PS2 to USB adapters, tries to sell me a USB splitter or a USB to VGA adapter instead (for $100 and $40, respectively!) Like it's some kind of substitute. I didn't even search from their website! It came up in the first page of search engine results!

I really really miss the Radio Shacks of yore. From before the toys and phones, and before they started demanding your long form birth certificate whenever you bought anything. Just the store you could go into and buy things like adapters and batteries and cables and stuff like that. Kind of weird and fucked up that people have so many more electronics now, but there's somehow LESS demand for the things you need to use them. Capitalism makes me really mad for some specific, concrete reason at least once or twice a day.

When we get a good snow, the snowplows for the County run up our road a a pretty good clip, and our mailbox is blasted by the snow-ice-salt-debris. And they leave a crest of same across our driveway, that blocks us in, and requires a bit of labor to remove so we can get to town.

No, see, I have managed to categorize at least 70% of my daily rages as symptoms and/or consequences of capitalism gone wild.

Ahaha adapters. At the ballet gig during superbowl weekend, we got a bunch of lights setup, all the cables ready, all we needed was to plug them in, and oh look the wall is a three pronged in a circle plug and the lights are three prongs in a line and no one brought the adapters. No worry someone's on a trip to the storage shed, and eventually brings up back adapters. But the wrong adapters. Someone had bought circle lock 15 amp when we needed 20 amp (or something like that) the only difference being the 20amp is like 15% larger, and the size difference isn't even noticable until you go to plug them in and none of the holes line up.

Of course there is a performance that night, so I'm pretty sure we rented out every one of those correct adapters available in a 30 mile radius from at least 3 different shops.

Also I've decided Ballet is just very fancy porn.
