If you've heard great things about this show, but haven't got around to watching it yet, do it. It really is great.

Ted Danson is fantastic. Kristen Bell is fantastic. Everyone else is fantastic and so is the writing. The less you know going in the better in my opinion.

Just watch it.
Seconded.

Netflix only has the two seasons for me, and the third is running now, I'm waiting with bated breath for it to come.

Third season starts a bit weird and sometimes slow but never fear, anything you dislike will quickly change as one of the few consistencies with the show is knowing when a premise has gone on a bit too long and change things up.

Season three has been on Netflix here. I thought it was a bit weaker than the first two, but still okay.

Netflix in the US won't get it until the season is done - possibly not until summer.

Roma is so, so good that I almost wasn't mad at Netflix for, like, several hours.

Really? I remember being underwhelmed when I saw the first few episodes for season 1. Perhaps I'll give it another try based on all the recommendations I'm seeing.

After all, I didn't like Deadwood when it first came out, either. I came around on it; perhaps I will on this, too.

It's on Amazon Prime: "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra." No explanation can do it justice (but you do have to appreciate self-aware, intentionally bad science fiction to like this movie).

We binged our way through Russian Doll the last 2 days. It stars Natasha Lyonne (of Orange is the New Black fame) as a hard partying video game programmer. She's got some issues to work through and is having a very, very strange night.

Probably the less you know going in the better. It's damn good and really gets going by the 3rd episode or so. Both Sou and I really liked it.

Watch it.

It is really good! Read nothing. Watch no trailer. Just put it on.

We watched it twice :stunned:

I watched the trailer, it's probably ok to do that. It seems to mostly only contain scenes from the first two episodes which gives you the basic premise.

But perhaps you'd rather find out the premise during the first episode instead of before you see it at all.

But I mean, you'll know the basic premise for 7 out of 8 episodes regardless of whether you watched the trailer.

Oh indeed, that was excellent!
For all the crap there is on normal TV, there's some gems out there.

Minor pet peeve. Could writers please get more creative in ways an elevator can kill someone! To sound a bit like Cyril here but Elisha Ottis invented the safety elevator around 1850s and no one has died inside a falling elevator in over 100 years, it just doesn't happen. In some cases the final everything else has failed safety mechanism is to explosively bolt and weld the car to the sides of the walls, requiring cutting tools to ever make the car move again.
Now being cut in half, walking into an empty shaft and falling, being crushed while above or below the car, these things and more have happened in only the last 20 years, but not a falling elevator car.

On a side note, if giving this speech about why people shouldn't be afraid of falling in an elevator car, you should think twice before adding, 'besides, way more people die on escalators than elevators anyway!' it may not really help.

Would've put my post about Icarus here, since it's a Netflix documentary, but it won the Oscar for best doc, so I don't think it counts as obscure...

I just noticed that Synecdoche New York is on Netflix US right now. I don't know if they just added it recently, or if it's been there and I only noticed it now.

It's pretty surreal and recursive and it's also kind of depressing, maybe. Nihilistic or maybe just melancholy, but either way, if you're not into that or if that's not good for you, don't watch it, but if you are and/or it is, do. It's really good on the first watch, and it gets better every time.

It's also not often available on streaming anywhere, so I figured I'd let you guys know.

"Bathtubs Over Broadway," a documentary about the industrial musicals that were written and performed at corporate retreats and sales conferences during the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Lots of fun.

Watched The Ballad of Buster Scruggs this week. Although worth watching, I kept wondering during and after why does FF and its recommenders want to hurt me?

I've watched that one twice. :yup: Pretty good stuff, IMO. The last section where they're in the coach riding to heaven or hell is pretty tricky to work out.

Yeeaah, by that point I was staring at the void in existential dread so I might have missed some stuff. Might need to watch the last couple of them again.

Okay. I enjoyed it, so far as I can remember.

Things I haven't enjoyed from the Netflix lately:

Love Death + Robots - an anthology series having to do with love and death and robots. All if not most of it is various cgi animation styles. While all well done art-wise, really none of the stories spoke to me. Even some of the happier or prettier looking ones were too grimdark for my liking.

No Good Nick - You're going to hear this from me a lot in this poste: Terrible people being terrible for no good reason. I think I watched two episodes and couldn't stand it any more. And I want to like it on account of Sean Astin.

Rim of the World - hot on the heels of the Kids in the 80s phase of entertainment is this modern day Goonies-like movie about aliens and kids. I didn't care for any of the children characters. Especially the not nice ones.

What/If - What if Would You Let Me Fuck Your Spouse For A Million Dollars was a series instead of a movie. More bad people who either have done bad things, are doing bad things or are planning do do bad things.

Thanks Breaking Bad for giving Hollywood carte blanche to show us all the bad people doing all the bad things but pretending they're the good guys in a tight spot.

Always Be My Maybe

Ali Wong and Randall Park star in this straightforward romantic comedy. Wong plays a celebrity chef on the rise, and Park plays an HVAC repairman and garage band leader coasting in life. They reconnect after she come back to her hometown to open a new restaurant...

If you like romantic comedies, this is a decent one. It's pleasant and enjoyable. It's even pretty funny in parts.

This is legit, I just checked it out to see what the fuss was about and next thing you know I was on episode 5 and had to finish that even though it meant missing the first inning of the yankee game.

Holy shit, Megatron! Where the hell have you been? Glad to see you around – I’d been getting sincerely worried whether you were OK.
