I have been playing this dumb Scrabblelike game called Wordiest, and I just finished my 100th game with my cumulative score at the 98.8th percentile. :smugnod:

Finally got all my yardwork done. 4 pickup loads of mulch, 3 loads of black dirt to fix my lawn where ants destroyed it and 50# of grass seed. Now I can do more important things like hang around on message boards.

I've gotten compliments on my coffee making. They're from people I think know coffee better than me. I don't know coffee, like almost at all. And to add to either my pettiness or the low bar of accomplishment, it's from two different methods.

One is the French press method. I'm more proud of this because it's one that takes really any kind of "skill." The personal cons for this are that it makes more than I, the sole coffee drinker in the house drinks at ant time. and the coffee ends up a little cooler than I like it. I have taken to making a solution that I potyion out through the week. An iced coffee for a going to work beverage.

The other is using a single serving coffee maker I boughten. It's not one of those vile proprietary monsters either (my sole requirement for enboughtening a single server). This is, as you might anticipate, for on the spot drinkening coffee or hot tea. To make "good" coffee, all one need do is, you know, follow the instructions.

I feel p good about the compliments anyhoo.

Coffee conservation and iced coffee tip.
If you make more coffee than you can drink freeze the unused portion in some old fashioned ice cube trays. Then, when you want some iced coffee and all you have is some fresh hot coffee, just pour the hot coffee over the coffee ice cubes. This will cool your coffee without diluting it.

Just call me Heloise.

I was interested in the game until I noticed it was free. If I'm not paying for it, then someone else is, which means I'm merchandise. On the other hand, I am happy for you that you did so well.

You could've increased your score by 30 by switching the O and E from HOSTEL over to BEMOAN, and moving the S to make it BEMOANS and HOTEL, so that you maximize the value of the letters getting the 10x word bonus applied to them.

:nerd:

I'd say this game reminds me more of Scramble ("with Friends") than Scrabble, which is like Boggle but has word and letter score bonuses. You don't have freedom to rearrange the letters, but to maximize your score you need to figure out basically how to maximize the bonuses applied to your word (so I typically spend my time focusing on the letters with the 2x or 3x word score bonuses). Scrabble is positional, whereas Scramble/Boggle you focus more on which letters are best.

I was kind of bored just now, so I kept Windows Technical Support on the phone for 15 minutes before he got frustrated and hung up.

And the thing that made him give up was the only thing I said that was true. The other stuff where I didn't know what a browser was, where I said my operating system was Dell, where I kept going back and describing my wallpaper and spelling out "Y-A-H-O-O-exclamation point" when he asked what was on my "internet," that was fine. But when he found out I didn't have a Windows key, he just said, "Wow," and hung up.

It's been a long time since I did that, but IIRC, 15 minutes is a pretty good time.

I walked 3 1/2 miles yesterday on lunch hour, was late getting back and missed a meeting, and my knee was acting up for some dumb reason but it's mostly okay now.

At least I know that I can walk at 3 1/2 mph.

I wanted a new phone case, so I made a few designs over at Redbubble. I bought for myself a phone case with the evaporated Jack Daniels picture on it.

I'm less than happy with the design tools over there. I suppose I should go looking for better sites.

Don't know if it's any better than Red Bubble (from which I've bought a couple of phone cases), but I heard an ad last week, on one of my podcasts, for Society6, which is very similar to RB.

Are you saying that it has been several weeks since you've worn your sports bras? You really need to get more exercise.

Remembered to bring in all the potted plants lest Irma blow them away. Then proceeded to repot the one that needed it. Finally set up a seed starter tray for my blue and green bunny (Monilaria moniliformis) seeds. We'll see if i can get them to sprout, which will not be a petty accomplishment.

I made a (very minor) contribution to the libuv project which solves a real problem, and it was merged in today. One of the reasons I like my job is that this is encouraged behavior.

I just finished putting down cardboard and mulch on almost the whole front yard in order to murder all the grass and weeds. For a total cost of $30.

It took a good long time, because first I had to find an arborist who had mulch to dump and pay him $30 for delivering outside his area, and then, I had to slowly accumulate cardboard boxes. I ended up getting almost all of them from the produce department at the grocery store. It was only a bit over 8 cubic yards of mulch, but like I said, I got all but a corner or the main part of the front yard. (I am leaving the shared strip between ours and the next door neighbor's yard as is. We take turns mowing that.)

I got all into keeping it at $30, so when I realized the tire was blown on the wheelbarrow, I just used a wheeled trashcan to haul the mulch.

So next spring, the plan is that I'm going to plant herbs and probably some other groundcover, so we never have to mow the front yard again.
