We had a kids and a bunch of grandkidlets around all day. and the rains came, so, everything was indoors.
Had to take several "Smoke Breaks" and go hang out on the porch for a breather.

Being an introvert can be tough when yer a grandperson.

CBD was a life-saver.

Oh dangit.

One of our neighbors, a nice lady in her 80s or so, came to the house this morning to give us some misdelivered mail, and I answered the door wearing an Andrew WK bloody nose shirt, plus there was a pile of pizza boxes sitting right outside the front door, so it looks like we just open the door and throw the trash into the front yard. (I am going to flatten them and put them under the mulch as weed barriers, but I have not done so yet.)

At least Zsa Zsa busted out the front door and made the lady give her scritches.

bey (pronounced bae) and I went and saw this show last night:

Hannah Gadsby - Douglas

It was fucking great. I can't remember when I've laughed so hard. The crowd was really great, too.

Now I need you guys to talk me in to going to this tonight:

Afterglow | Exploratorium

I fuckin love Reggie Watts, but can I really go up to the city 2 nights in a row? Is such a thing even possible? I'm not a millennial after all.

Reason one, personal connection:
I knew one of the head exhibit designers there and poked around at her internet display exhibits. I wonder if she finished her transition.

Reason two, quotation:

Hey, I went to this! It was pretty great, I'm glad I went.

There were a lot of people there to did not know or care who Reggie Watts was. (Which, wtf were they spending their money for? The open bar?) The sound was not great, so nobody could really hear anything except those right at the stage. Fortunately, it was not difficult to get up there, so it ended up feeling kind of intimate as he did a show for about 10 rows of people right in front of him. And he did not appear to give a fuck, either, trolling in his style that he does. People were bouncing balloons around and the couple times he got one, he held it up in an "Alas, poor Yorick!" pose, silent and motionless for tens of seconds. There was one guy high as balls who was experiencing him for the first time and he was absolutely losing his shit. Shouting about "Bring it home, REGGIE!" shit like that. I don't know, maybe you had to be there. It was fun.

Oh! Also you guys would have died at my awesome flex at some unsuspecting guy who thought it would be a good idea to engage a stranger about math.

I was spacing out in the Exploratorium, eyeballing this video that was showing someone plotting a function on graph paper, and this dude swaggers up with this amazing conversation starter: "what's going on here?"
me: "it's x squared"
him: "you think it's y equals x squared?"
me: "yeah"
him: "ah, so it's exponential"
me: "it's quadratic"
him: "huh?"
me: "it's a parabola. It's quadratic, not exponential"

And then he just walked away. Can you believe that? :blank:

Another high point, I got my first "that's the year my mom was born!" from the precious ingénu who checked my ID at the door. :pat:

Saw the Polish prog/metal band Riverside last night, and those fuckers rule! They've been touring and recording for 17 years, but I just found out about them a few months ago. Better late than never, I suppose. It's always a treat to come across a new bass god, and Mariusz Duda definitely qualifies.

They're touring with Contrive, a pair of brothers from Australia (one on drums, the other on guitar and vocals) who kick a lot of ass and did a fine job getting the crow primed.

Special thanks to Lisa Pea. My concert buddy from work is Jewish and takes shabbat very seriously, so no Friday night shows for him. Mr. Pea stepped up, went to the show with me, and may have secretly had some fun.

LOL I am a hero.

I did check it out first, and decided it was loud and metal adjacent enough that I wouldn't hate it.

(I don't like recorded metal, I don't even know the names of the various metal genres, much less anything more specific, but metal and metal adjacent shows are the best live.)

That's because they're all made up by music journos or label marketers. You add enough adjectives so that the band or even the specific album you're reviewing/promoting is the only example of progressive blackened death-adjacent nu-metal-core.

Even more news from our action packed household!

I DUG A HOLE, then Matlock and I went to the garden center and picked out a new Ponderosa pine tree for the front yard near where our fallen blue spruce was. (For the many new :ff: members who are not caught up: A couple Christmases ago, one of our two gigantic blue spruces cracked and fell in a windstorm.)

Anyways, we got some supplements, and I decided the hole I'd already dug wasn't ideally situated, so I dug a new hole a few feet away because this tree should be there for the next 600 years and I don't want to be digging it back up again in 200 or whatever, and tomorrow, I'll make Matlock help me plant it, and I'm pretty excited about this, and its name is Wanda.

Not only did we have squirrels in the attic, we had a family of raccoons! One of the babies went exploring and somehow got into the upstairs apartment. (We're downstairs)

Our landlords trapped a couple of them and took them away, but there were two babies still on the roof yesterday.

I have now been without the drainage end of the plumbing for two weeks during a stupid renovation thing in my building and while I think I have been pretty brave and a trooper about it I am really starting to miss the luxury of my own toilet. And my shower. And the kitchen as a whole.

Currently I can't even reach the bucket they provided for my "convenience" as it is jammed behind my detached sink unit and a pump-type thing in my bathroom.

I am pleased to announce that I am in the fortunate position of being able to confirm that, even if they aren't :ff: posters any more, Anastasia Beaverhausen and BigBlue2 are real people. Or at least have very convincing body actors.

There was Italian food and wine and beer. In some order.

I stomped a mole today.

The thing got flushed out (accidentally) by the dog. I have no idea why it was so exposed, but instead of retreating into the hole, it chose to attempt a surface getaway.

I chose to have one less mole in my yard.

The stomp was the quickest and most effective way to stop having that mole in my yard. I'd like to think its death was as quick as I could make it.

I'm surprised the dog didn't try to eat it. I would have been happier if the dog did the killing, but not happy if the dog ate it... I'm sure it was a disease vector.
