Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
I am pretty confident that a single picture, linked to a public use of that picture, with a comment like "great idea!" or "I love this!" could not be construed as anything but commentary and fair use.
Even if someone complained about one of my pins, they would have to start with a C&D request. If the C&D is honored (which Pinterest will take down Pins themselves), then again, what's to take to court?
So, I'll take my chances.

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
It's not even a fair use issue.
The reason you're confused is that it is completely insane and you're just having a hard time wrapping your head around it, I guess, because you're expecting it to make some kind of sense, which it doesn't.
Pinterest automatically uploads all images you pin to their own servers. In the user agreement, you agreed that you would only pin content that you held sole and exclusive copyright to, and you also agreed that you would grant Pinterest license to that content. Seriously.
The reasons that I am not worried about it and gleefully go about violating that contract are:
1. It's ridiculous and unenforceable, and there is no way Pinterest would be insane enough to actually start asserting their 'license,' and even if they did, it would be trivially easy to show that they had no reasonable expectation that the users were the true copyright owners.
2. I like doing crimes, because it makes me feel sort of cool and badass.

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
Well, I am certainly not worried at all. I have been around copyrights shit in business, and unless it's music or movie pirating, it's always like lawyers send letters back and forth and maybe this wording or that picture gets changed and maybe not, but nobody ever goes to court.

LOL Bort. I was even going to use that very smiley, but then I was all like, "No. Lisa. Stop using that smiley every time you are being a rebel who will never be any good."
But I secretly thought that smiley anyway, so thank you. It really needed to get out there.

Hey, look what was suddenly flooding my front page for no apparent reason:
Spirals
Someone I follow got on a random kick, and suddenly I'm looking at spirals. They're so pretty and mathy!

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
I got put on some kind of terrorist watch list when I was in grade school because when I had a really boring writing assignment at school, I'd write it out in a spiral. Not like a Fibonacci sequence poetry, but just spirals instead of lines; and I'd try to compose it so that I'd start at the outside and finish the assignment when I got to the middle.
So yeah. I am now following that too.

I should not have clicked that link and I'm glad I clicked off quickly. Watching the last ten minutes of Uzumaki in the wee hours of the morning on Halloween scarred me for life. Can't look at a spiral without freaking out a little.

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
OK, I have started a Children's Treasury of Mansplaining board, and anyone who wants to contribute should hit me up and I'll add you. I'm just planning to collect actual "explanations" from actual mens in the real world, at this point, mostly facts about human reproduction.
Which, also, if anyone can remember where I saw that guy explaining to a lady that Plan B was the abortion pill, which makes you pee out a fetus, I feel like I need to use the actual quote and a link on that one, and I can't find it. So halp? Where did I see that? It's way too ridiculous and implausible to summarize or excerpt.

I didn't see it at first either, but it's the last part of the fifth comment down on mr. drusus' link, from "Kentnerd3000."
I am also getting a funneh feeling that some people repinned that foreclosing on uteri thing because they thought it was a good idea. I cannot think of the right keywords to locate a smiley of the face I'm making about that.

I still can't find it. It's not in my computer!!
Found it buried in a reply to a comment...but still it's been edited

It's not an abortion then if you didn't have an embryo inside you... Plan B (which seems to be what you're describing) is not the equivalent of an abortion. It's touted as an "abortion pill", but that's like calling a long set of steps or a wire hanger individual abortion tools.

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
Okay, Pinterest now has that stupid Facebook like "Friends to follow" list.
I purposefully disconnected my account from Facebook because I didn't want these suggestions. I don't want to follow people just because I may know them. I liked looking at a general topic and seeing interesting things without knowing or caring who posted it. I liked being able to choose to search for my friends I thought I might share interests with. I don't want them in my face. I don't want some algorithm saying "You should follow this person because you went to high school with them" or whatever. Where are they even getting them since it's not attached to my Facebook nor did I use my regular email address?
The lack of ability to control my experience makes it even more annoying. I can't block people, I can't hide Pins. I have to fuck around with my FB settings a lot but at least they have them.
I may delete my account....or go incognito

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
OK, I think I have a solution to my problem. I'm a keep poasting Privilege Denying Dude mansplainings, but if they're not super 100% obvious without any potential for misunderstanding, I'm editing the link to something that does make it obvious.
That way, if someone does repost a pin because they agree with it, it'll still point to some bonerkilling feminazi stuff, so I win extra hard.
My new problem is that there are too many PDDs in the wild to choose from. I'm gonna have a bunch of little pinboards with like five things in them, and then a gigantic one with a million.

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
Pinterest updated their terms of service. Did you see the email? I'm on the phone and don't want to cut and paste. They acknowledge that they were using a boilerplate TOS and so they adjusted it to fit what they do.

Has anybody been able to set their board cover photo since they added that "feature"? Every time I try, it just spins forever.

Re: Pinterest, ladysplained.
So I'm sure you've noticed by now this "bit.ly" effect where a lot of the pins are links to spam with the url obfuscated. The thing is, it's effective because the images on the pins are really good and you want to repin them! So what I started doing was repinning them and then changing the link to something relevant, like a wikipedia article or something. Then I realized I could have fun with it and change the link to anything I want, however tangentially related, so I have been. So those Unicorn Poop cookies link to PFLAG right now, which I did because I thought it would be funny and because they are rainbow. But then I realized I can totally use this to subversively push an agenda, just like the spammers do, so that's the plan!
