I fail to see what the problem is. Perfectly dutiful dognieces I have there. One, they're letting you know somebody is trying to BREAK DOWN THE DOOR. Just in case you aren't listening or something. They know better than to go charging at the door because that's just impolite. And for the this alleged avocado theft, it's obvious they just need more omega three fatties in their life. I mean, duh, right?

I would also note that if one ever became tired of one's user title, "Harborer of THIEVES and SLUGABEDS" would be a decent replacement. With or without caps.

This story is completely unrelated to those pilfering layabout dogs, but one time years ago when Lisa's brother Reid was staying with us, Jehovah's Witnesses came a-callin' and Reid and I answered the door together. The nervous laughter and rapid eye movements of the middle-aged JW ladies at the door strongly suggested they though that I was some pervy old gay homosexual and Reid was my handsome young partner/rentboy. They were troopers, though. They hung in, engaged in polite conversation and offered pamphlets, just as Jesus intended.

Default Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!

Gah. It's November, so it's Spend A Gazillion Dollars On Pug Month! Hooray.

I had to spend TWO gazillion dollars this time, because Ms. Chickenbunny had a cyst to remove, on the side of her belly near her back leg (the right, for those of you who will ask if I don't specify). Plus another tooth extraction. I seriously don't know what the fuck to do about her teeth since I can't brush them properly. Spend half a gazillion dollars for regular vet cleanings? Fuck and dammit.

So now she wears the Cone of Shame. I'm a rebel, though, 'cause I'm not insisting that she wear it constantly, only when we can't keep an eye on her. Overnight always, then in the morning I remove it, feed her, give her 2 pills and 2 different eye ointments, take her out on leash to pee & poop, then I put the cone back on and leave for work (well, this was my first day back to work since the operation, so we'll see if I can improve the process, 'cause this is a pain in the ass). When Mrs. Puppet is home, she takes it back off when she can supervise. So far, VC doesn't seem to be interested in messing with the area, but all bets are off when it starts getting itchy.

If she were a bigger dog, I would be more willing to leave the thing on. But when you're that close to the ground, this bigassed cone keeps you from too many normal activities -- going up steps, using the doggie door, and even getting in her small bed is difficult. Coupled with her poor eyesight, she's like a fuzzy bumper car careening through the house. And the sutures don't get removed for 2 weeks. :gah:

You need to get VC one of these stat. Bushi had one after she was spayed and it was much, much easier for her to go about her normal business. She really couldn't eat at all wearing the big plastic cone. You won't have to dick around with this crazy schedule anymore.

I'll look into it, but the way it looks in the pic, it may not prevent what I need it to prevent. I'm worried she could still get her little pug face into the wound with just the neck donut, given how far down her body it is. Tough to test without encouraging her messing with the wound, too.

The crazy schedule won't be changed much without the cone, although her comfort certainly would be. Even if she can fit through the dog door, all I can eliminate is the walkies part in the morning (that's a good 5-10 minutes, though). Although the dog door is a huge part of the overall inconvenience, not just the morning thing, so yeah, if it works, it's worth it.

I don't want it to seem like I'm Pug Shaming. I'm just thinking out loud. Given the, uh, general dimensions of the general Pug one might be able to apply the donut along the body or sommit. I dunno. Maybe not.

Speaking of which ...

I have known for years that our own hirsute fambly member is among the SLUGABEDS (being another innate pug trait), but yesterday I was informed of her THIEVERY most foul. Mrs. Puppet had gone to the store, and due to a current kitchen remodel going on, set her bags on a chair in the bedroom. Unbeknownst to her, Li'l Puppet subsequently opened the package of cheese danishes, took one out, and then just left everything where she found it.

Inmate V. Chickenbunny ate. The. Whole. Package. Minus just the one.

As if I didn't have enough to worry about with this little ingrate, now I have to see if she pukes, buttleaks, or otherwise magnanimously shares her gastric distress with the rest of us. Plus whether she'll have diabetes or some shit. Other than her appetite being off (that ended up basically being her dinner, although I was able to get her to eat a small amount of supplement-laden food), so far she's not showing symptoms from her bender. She ate about half of her food this morning, leaving the rest, which needless to say is unusual.

Goddamnit.

Mrs. Puppet was sad about having to leave her little budgies behind when we moved from Texas. So Li'l Puppet and I, last month, decided to get her a new one for her birthday. We picked out the most energetic, gluttonous one of the bunch. He was extremely affectionate right out of the gate; I've never seen a bird that wanted to cuddle so much as this little critter. We were all quite happy with him and ready to spend a few years with him.

I just got a call. He was perfectly fine last night, no signs of any trouble. Now he's dead. No trauma, nothing happened, he's just fucking dead.

What the fuck.

It has a vibrate setting, an automatic setting (to adjust the shocks until peace is achieved), and 7 manual settings in case the automatic doesn't do it.

Putting the collar on him and setting it at automatic, I got him into the car for the Thanksgiving trip to Alabama. True to form, he was excited and didn't wait to see other vehicles before he tuned up.

What I heard: WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! yipe!

And then silence for the rest of the trip. He may be big and loud but he ain't dumb. Barking = ouch, quiet = no ouch. Figured it out in less than two minutes.

There was panting and he was still excited but there were no more ear-piercing barks. Bad Momma. Happy Momma. GOOD DOG!

VC went back yet again to the vet. Nothing major (but fucking expensive AGAIN of course), just apparent female troubles of a type that didn't come back as a positive in the urine/blood tests. She's fine now.

But how the hell did I never find Pill Pockets before? I've thought to myself at various times that such a thing must exist (somebody probably even mentioned it here but I missed it like a dumbass), yet never got it together to actually look for the damned things. This could also go in that product recommendation thrad 'cause hell YES I heartily recommend these. Sometimes I have something handy on hand, while other times I've struggled to get some random dog-safe thing to shove the pills into. These are just the right amount of stickiness and texture to ensure the pill goes down with them, even after chewing (or what VC does that passes for chewing). And they're big enough for 3 pills at once. They're properly stinky, too.

Bonus: they come in chicken flavor, which is sort of VC's religion.

Yesterday I took Zsa Zsa in for her checkup and had them run all the tests :spend: because she is about ten years old now!

Everything came back great, as usual, except that I need to start brushing her teeth and she is going on a very minor diet, just to lose maybe 3 or 4 pounds, which is not a big deal. Just a matter of slightly smaller nighttime dinners and maybe slightly fewer cookies.

So she kicked off her diet by countersurfing a big piece of garlic bread last night.

Then this morning, I got up, gave them their breakfast, we went outside to powder our noses, came back in, and all settled down, OR SO I THOUGHT.

About ten minutes later, I hear the distinctive sound of kibble being poured into a bowl, so I run to the kitchen, and apparently, the ladies opened the bedroom door and woke Matlock up demanding yet another breakfast. And they almost got it, too. No wonder they hate me.

Mister Pee is off in New Mexico visiting her mom and sister, so I'm a free agent this week. :cheesywink: Yesterday I demonstrated why I am too irresponsible to have any freedom whatsoever by making a sammich and accidentally leaving the big-ass block of cheddar cheese on the counter. Zsa Zsa continued her diet celebration by counter-surfing the block o' cheese and taking it to the special corner where she takes all her counter-surfed prizes. She would've eaten every goddamn bit of that cheese had Trevor not discovered her.

This is my sister's dog Rosie. You may remember her as the "redbone coonhound" she got from the shelter. The one that was all in love with Matlock and kept molesting him all the time.

Well, since we last told you about Rosie, she was actually run over by a car. She broke I think two legs and just generally got really mangled up, but she is apparently a pretty sturdy "redbone coonhound," and has managed to recover quite nicely with the help of extensive and expensive medical interventions, but she still has some scarring, which brings me to what I would like to show you now.

That is what the youths of today call a "cutie mark," isn't it?
