My parents have an astonishingly beautiful cat. He's a golden chinchilla Persian and has a coat the likes of which I have never seen before: huge tufts over and around his ears, massive mutton chops of fluff, fur asploding all over his paws. The thing is, he's hopelessly neurotic, scared of everything all the time. Mom (she's a shrink) says he's hypervigilant like he has PTSD. He barely lets them touch him and I can't even get near him, of course.

We've had two Persians before and both of them had wonderful, happy, relaxed personalities. My Dad is a firm believer in breed character, which is why he would never adopt from the pound no matter how much I harassed them about it. Now look what they've got. I think Jason's gifts all went into his coat so there was nothing left for his poor addled brain. Give me my wonderful domestic shorthair anytime.

Purebred obsession aside, my parents would be 100 times happier with a fun, interactive cat like mine than that shell-shocked beauty.

I have never gotten a cat on purpose. People pretty much just throw them at me, like, "Ha ha, now you have a cat!" and if they can run faster than me: New cat.

Once, I got two different cats (Bob, and the late Jack) that way, from different people in entirely unrelated incidents, on the SAME DAY. The Little Muffin was so surprised when he got home.

So yeah, this 'getting a cat on purpose' thing is alien to me, and it is probably for losers.

I have never gotten a cat on purpose either, so I'm off the hook. :phew:

Although I managed to give away one of them in turn a few months later when I had to leave the country :muahaha:

OK. Now that I have done some horrible stuff I had to do, I am going to do an impression of livius drusus' dad. I am wearing my fake mustache and my sombrero and doing a special prancy walk, which is how you can tell I am doing an impression of someone.

"HELLOOOOO! MY NAME IS LIVIUS DRUSUS' DAD, AND TODAY I HAVE DONNED MY CAT-BUYING PANTS IN PREPARATION TO MAKE PURCHASE OF A FELINE CAT!"

omg, lol @ that guy.

Make sure you tell him all that stuff I said!

My little heathens have declared war on Christmas! Specifically, the tree ornaments. And they are winning it, bigtime. :brooding:

There are now no ornaments on the bottom third of the tree. The glass ones have been swept up, and the wooden ones have been re-hung on higher boughs.

The babies remain in my good graces, however, because they did the cutest, cuddliest thing the other night!

I was doing laundry, and the laundry room is downstairs. I closed the downstairs doors (a couple bedrooms and the garage) because I like to limit the number of rooms I have to check when I'm searching for the heathens. Also it sometimes encourages to hang out with me in the main living area upstairs. Not always, though, because sometimes they don't like me. This was one of those times.

So I'm down there messing with the laundry, and V (who is the one who has mostly figured out how doors work) is attempting to open the garage door by pulling on the sweaters hanging from the doorknob. I made sure the door was latched, and then I was like, "good luck with that, stupid." Q's just hanging out with him hoping he figures it out, because she doesn't understand doors at all. Seriously you can accidentally close her in a room with the door open three or four inches, and she won't even make an attempt.

So I go upstairs, and they don't follow me, and I kind of forget about them. The next time I go down to advance the laundry, I discover that he gave up on the garage door, and went for the closet door instead, which also had sweaters hanging from the doorknob, and this one wasn't latched. So the closet door is wide open and the two little heathens are sleeping head-to-tail on the floor in a little circle, like an orange and grey in and yang. :aww:

I could totally be an armchair vet! I correctly diagnosed Q's sneezes and runny eyes weeks before the vet did. When she went in for her spay surgery, he thought she might have an upper respiratory infection, but since she didn't have a fever, he did the surgery anyway, and gave her some antibiotics. She healed fine from the surgery, but her sneezes and gross eyes never cleared up. I was all, "I bet she has allergies." And today when she went in for her booster shots, the vet confirmed it. She totally has allergies.

Trust me, one girl with allergies can spot another, regardless of the species. :cohnoes:

So they went in for their shots today because we're going to board them next week at this swanky pet resort.

Mine won the battle of the x-mas tree years ago and I haven't put one up since. I spent the most time on a tree that I ever had that year and they bared the bottom half entirely within 2 weeks. Neva again. :nojustno:

I'm a total sucker, so of course I upgraded their highnesses to the vista suite. They can watch the dogs play in the yard from their panoramic window.

I miss them already. :sadcheer: I was surprised when they didn't rush me at the door when I came home from dropping them off.

Yeah, the window is key. Between sleeping, playing with each other and staring at the enemy without, they'll barely have a free moment.

That cat that I had. I left him with my dad. For three months once when I was traveling. When I came to pick him up he climbed on my shoulder right away and wouldn't budge all night, just sat there purring.
