Raw onion makes my stomach hurt. In general, once something like that happens, it very hard to stop the near automatic avoidance of such a food. Well known scientific fact. :smugnod:

I once got heartburn that tortured me for 14 hours from eating a Pizza Hut sausage pizza. That was the last Pizza Hut pizza I ever had. I still heart pizza, tho, just from good places.

Pizza Hut is evil like that. So is Papa John's. I know you said good places but sometimes beggars can't be choosers. And beggars dose up with Zantac.

Now that Adam is back and thanking posts all over the place my name no longer appears first on the list of thankers quite as frequently it did before he resurfaced. This is trivial, petty and annoying. But there it is.

Really the key is to stay away from most 'normal' tomatoes, like beefsteak. Heirlooms often have a good flavor, then there's Kumato or brown tomato, which was genetically selected more for flavor than looks, and cherry tomatoes which aren't just small but often sweeter. Unripe and flavorless tomatoes often lack both acidic and sugar flavors.
I dislike cherry tomatoes more than any other kind of tomato I have tasted. They taste too tomatoey. Whatever part of the tomato it is I don't like, that's what they taste like. Flavorless would be better.

Quote:
You may notice the tomato items you listed often included added vinegar (as well as sugar and salt).
I always figured that the acid in the vinegar or onions or whatever was neutralizing some base that has the taste I don't like.

It's the picky eaters who talk about it all the time that bug me.

I mean, I have a bunch of things I don't care for. I don't really like squashes very much, I don't like turnips or rutabagas or those other things like that, and I don't like tomatoes on sandwiches unless it's a tomato sandwich or sometimes toasted cheese. I'll eat them and sometimes buy them and make things with them, even, but I don't seek them out is all. And Matlock doesn't like raw tomatoes at all, but he doesn't bother anyone about it. If I make a salad with tomatoes in it, he'll just try not to get any in his. That doesn't bug me at all. I also get all his pickles, and I am actively in favor of that.
I only talk about it if someone asks about my preferences specifically. I will eat, or try my best to eat, anything that's served to me. If there's something in it I don't care for, I will eat around it if I can do so without being totally conspicuous and obnoxious about it.

That's cuz my mommy brought me up right. What was for dinner was what was for dinner, deal with it. :dealwithit: She usually did and still does me the solid of cutting the things she knows I don't like into big chunks so they are easy to locate. That's damn good enough for me.

Don't hate me pea! I'm a good girl with good manners, I promise! I want to eat at your house one day.

I forgot to include spinach in my list. I don't mind raw spinach in a salad. I don't mind a modest amount of spinach in an omelet or a quiche, but I actively dislike boiled or steamed spinach. The other day my wife opened a can from the pantry off of which the mice had chewed the label. It was spinach, so of course she had to serve it. Just a disgusting mass of green slime that I had to spoon on to my plate or face serious retribution. She usually honors my distaste for that glop, but once the can was opened she just had to serve it. And I had to eat it, because that is the kind of guy I am. Henpecked and chickenshit.

Public toilets that don't have a coat hook. I frequently wear a suit and need somewhere to hang the suit coat while I attend to some serious business.

Hint: The door knob is not an adequate substitute for a coat hook.

My old, inexpensive microwave oven—I've had it for 10 years or so and I think it cost about £80—has a simple feature that is both precious and rare. While its beeps are as unpleasant as those of any other device demanding attention, it shuts the fuck up immediately when I attend to it.

So that's my trivial beef: OTHER PEOPLE"S MICROWAVE OVENS THAT KEEP ON BASTARD BEEPING AFTER YOU'VE OPENED THE BASTARD DOOR!

This morning, my boss sent me a .lnk attachment, which Outlook blocked for my safety(yes, I know, Outlook... but we're forced to use it...)

Fortunately it was entirely too willing to tell me what it had blocked for my safety, so no information was actually blocked, and I was able to do my job without interference.
