Isn't this the second round of US electrical system roasts just recently?

Re: First World Problems
Also if you were really wondering about the danger, your english plug technology protected you from any possibility of electrical shock. Built properly UK plugs are all grounded, protecting against just that type of shock through a short with the bonus that the plug is fused just in case. A small short via water will just flow into the much more conductive ground and maybe trip a ground fault interrupt (the button thingy), while a big one would burn out the fuse before burning you out. In america we take our freedoms more seriously than you and still commonly use the two pronged freedom plug. You can’t tell me how to be reasonably safe around deadly things!
240v hurts more to be shocked by and in theory is more dangerous. People will say it’s the current that kills you, but the voltage helps and doubling the voltage produces a bigger shock that can punch through more resistance, but the truth of the matter is where that current goes is as important, and never across your heart since really way less than that but applied purposefully across the heart is more than enough to fuck with the electrical system, so preventing that is the top priority. The additional pain of an accidental bodily short on 240 vs 120 almost certainly lead to at least a few screams of “Oww, goddamnit, servants, we must ground everything!” That isn’t as common in america.
If you’re being really dumb with electricity, being dumb with your gloved right hand and your left hand *not* hanging onto some metal pole or neutral return wire, is the better way to be dumb. Of course outside of the house the best way to be dumb around electricity is just don’t. Extremely high AC voltage and currents can do some crazy things all of them invented by death herself.

Most people complain about the opposite problem. They can sort of deal with 19 hours of darkness a day, but 19 hours of sunshine plus 5 hours of dusk is too hard somehow.

That's the hilarious part, I'm originally from the land of blackout curtains and 3 am sunrise myself.

Re: First World Problems
Some years ago I was working for a department store, and one evening in May an American tourist called and in passing remarked on the lightness and asked when it gets dark.
I replied "Um, in August?"

Today was the first clear, bright morning we've had in a while. I woke up and it's all sunny and shit... I'm thinking I slept in late... it was fucking 6:23.

While I was in Canada for 2 weeks it rained at home almost every day, so Sou wasn't able to cut the grass. It's a bloody jungle out there and it's all still wet. But I have to cut it because more rain is coming tomorrow. It's also insanely humid today.

Netflix is showing two Black Mirror episodes as unwatched, even though I know I have seen them. So annoying that I am considering fast forwarding through them for closure.

On Saturday night we stayed in a trailer with no electricity or running water - I didn't bother to take my Keurig or hair drier inside, left them in the car.
oh, and this snake slithered past me...

10:30, still some light in the sky at the 49th N. Western side of the time zone, though.
But here's Whitehorse:
Roughly directly north north west and about the same latitude as Finland.

Seems to have updated since, though. With an 11:41 time stamp on the panoramic it's still twilight there.

Re: First World Problems
I bought a new kettle on Sunday. Not the fancy Smeg one they had, just a generic house brand. It's fine, it's pretty, it boils water, if with a bit of an overly space-agey feel.
Today, Tuesday, an identical-to-my-old-one-except-fully-functional kettle here at work is being given away for free.

Re: First World Problems
Forwarded by Miss Mini-Miisa who is too cool to be actually seen in this place; she visited relatives abroad and was once again shocked by the local restrictions on mobile data, and that whenever she was out of the house and wifi range had to keep listening to the same 20 songs she had downloaded rather than her usual streaming Spotify.

Re: First World Problems
So a week or so ago, Zsa Zsa got giardia and went on a round of medications to knock it out. Yesterday, we brought in samples from both dogs to check, and they both have giardia. Apparently this is a Colorado thing, where dogs get giardia here a lot and it's especially tough to get rid of.
So today, I went to pick up another round of medication. Driving the car without AC, and that someone forgot to put the sun shade up on, so it's stupid hot. I get to the turnoff to the vet's office, and directly in front of me on the street with the only entrance, they're setting up cones and closing the road. I make the next left turn hoping to find some back way in, but I end up in one of those fucking nightmare labyrinthine housing developments where all the streets have almost identical names (like Elm Lane, Elm Lane East, S Elm Way, etc.), and the streets wend around so you lose track and the McMansions are so tightly packed together you can't see the mountains (that is how you get your bearings here). It took me a goodly long time to even find my way back to the main street so I could get home.
And the dogs don't have their medicine.

Re: First World Problems
Planning the Mor-Man and my trip to Australia etc...
Cheaper airlines have no inflight seatback entertainment or free checked luggage and only food for purchase.
More expensive airlines are more expensive.
