I pretty much always take slots 2 & 3 if available, no particular reason.

I got my platinum fielder and pioneer. I came back from our trip with only about 20 to go, so I was able to knock that out near home.

Hello Ingressers. If anyone's still playing. Which is erratic at best for me.

For no good reason I have started watching "Ingress the Anime" on Netflix. Certainly not because I am lacking in other things to watch or things to do other than watching TV.

It's OK so far, kind of amusing. The title of each episode is three glyphs, such as "Begin - Danger - Message".

Lots of the usual "this is not a game" back story, and a bit of gratuitous exposition of how the gameplay works. Various people have psychic powers and these are enhanced by being under an aligned control field.

The theme song is "triangles are my favourite shape" - actually Tesselate by Alt-J.

The initial main character Sarah Coppola isn't aligned - but if she turns out be the agent prophesied to bring balance to the, um, XM I will be slightly annoyed.

So I'm involved with this again. I :blame: bey.

I have not played very much since Prime launched, so I am still getting to know the new scanner stuff. There's tons to do around work, of course.

At least I never changed my :fflove: signature.

I haven't played much since (a) Prime launched and (b) the GPS on my phone became seriously unreliable. I've vaguely assumed I will give it another go when I get a new phone.

How are you coping with the monstrosity that is Prime?

 It's been long enough since I used pre-prime that I don't really notice the difference? The muscle memory needs to be learned/re-learned either way.

I feel like I now have to hit X too many times after deploying resonators, but I also need to hit X more times to exit the link screen, which is good because it means you can do multiple links without entering that screen each time. So I guess it's a wash?

It's just going to take some practice.

There are new badges to earn, but they look dumb. :sourgrapes:

There's a new "game" from Niantic - Pikmin Bloom - that also works in augmented reality when you take your phone for a walk.

You don't have to do much: little flowers start to grow where you walk regularly, and when they grow big enough, they uproot themselves and begin following you around. You can also pluck petals from the flowers, and plant them to help the flowers spread.
You can look at a map and see the flowers marking your regular routes.

I've not installed or tried it yet. Sounds like less work than Ingress or Pokémon Go, but still providing a contrived reason to go for a walk.

An increasing number of apps are not available for older versions of Android ... so I went to check ...

Pikmin Bloom - Apps on Google Play
Says it works from Android 6.0, which is pretty ancient. Anyway it's definitely there.

Very mixed reviews ...

I love this game. It's not complicated, but encourages walking and adds a cute, fun element to being more active. However, the game breaks your phone. It causes other apps to crash and stop working, prevents text messages from being sent or received, and messes up notifications so you get them several hours too late.

I'd wait for a couple of upgrades.

Yeah, I'm an idiot. This thing where they just pretend an app doesn't exist because they have deemed it incompatible with your device is annoying. It makes so little sense to me that I never think of it when I can't find something.

We wouldn't have put up with this shit back in my day... :oldman:

I'm still playing the Ingress again.

My Sojourner stopped counting up about 2 weeks shy of Onyx, way back in the original year of the Sojourner, and I remember deciding at that time that I was not going to dedicate another year of my life to that garbage, so I was like shine it. But now you can get it with your drone hacks, so I'm giving it another shot. Of course I'm also chasing Epoch now, which doesn't count drone hacks, so the situation hasn't really changed all that much. Except the most you can ever lose by missing an Epoch hack is 7 days, so that's something, at least.

Speaking of drones, I'm trying to get mine to Berkeley. I have made it as far as Fremont and I seem to find myself stuck in a little peninsula of portals, but I'm poking my way around, back-tracking some, I will find another route north, damnit!

I installed Pikmin Bloom on my old phone. I had to also install the Google Fit app, which it uses somehow to count your steps walked. There's more to it than just walking - you have to plant your seedlings, give them nectar to make them friendlier, and such - a bit like looking after your Pokémon in Pokémon Go: more work than I can really be bothered with. There's also some kind of interaction at the same portal locations used by Ingress and Pokémon Go - but I never got round to investigating how that worked.

Also, it seemed a bit of a resource hog, running my phone battery down, and slowing the operation of the phone's other features. So I uninstalled both Pikmin Bloom and Google Fit.

Oh, also, when I started playing again, I noticed that I was at about 13K captures. The Liberator badge is one of those OG badges, and it goes like: Bronze 100, Silver 1K, Gold 5K, Platinum 15K, Onyx 40K. I was like, wow, I'm within 2 silvers of platinum! That's totally doable.

So I started paying attention and scouting parks and other portal-dense areas for white portals. And I would be like, "Look at that park! It's totally uncaptured. It's gotta be good for a couple hundred caps, at least!" And then I would go capture the whole thing and it would be like 40 portals. I turns out I am not good at estimating that shit.

So, I'm still grinding to that Platinum Liberator badge. I'm only about 1.5 silvers away at this point.

I'm going to take the shuttle to Stanford after work today. That's got to be worth a couple million captures, right?
