We do live on the northerly side of the Denver metro area, so you may be able to make it if you left now!

It's work sometimes, and I don't always feel like doing it, but I think friends dinner is one of the better ideas I've had. I get to make dinners that wouldn't be worth making for just us, and I'm not always very good about keeping in touch with my friends when I don't have a regularly scheduled thing. Also, it forces us to do minimal housecleaning a little more regularly than we do by default. I mean, the house isn't CLEAN or anything, but it's sort of a reminder to change the slipcover on the couch and get all the junk off the whole dining table instead of just clearing a corner and stuff like that.

Scrub a toilet or two

The Mor-man and I attend a lot of things but we don't entertain really. I'm afraid he will invite the Church over :scared:

Tonight we are eating lightly as tomorrow we are going to pig-out at The CNE.

Now that I've downsized the dinners to every other week instead of every week, I feel like I should make more stuff when I do. Anyway, I'll just start making stuff I guess and stop when I get tired of doing that.
Have you ever tried Muhammara (Roasted Pepper & Walnut Spread)? I have always loved hummus and baba ganoush and we were at this Lebanese restaurant (Arabesque in Kitchener Waterloo if any Canadians are reading this and get a chance to go there, do it. DO. IT.) and they had Muhammara which I had never heard of before and it was delicious. Soooooooo good.

And stangely, one of the youtube chef's I watch had a recipe for it the next week.
You have probably had it, but maybe someone else will give it a try.

Ha, yeah. I do that. I go through these phases where I'll make the same types of things over and over for a while until I figure out how to do something. And my sister in law sent me her harissa recipe a little while ago, so that's what I've been messing around with these days.

After I get through my experiment phase, I'll go back to normal. I can make it the way I like now without looking anything up, but I'm still experimenting with using it for different things.

Pretty soon, I'll move on. Probably to Muhammara, because no, I have not had that before, but I really want to now.

Chik-fil-a for school spirit night, which is probably healthier than my planned dinner of hot dogs and potato chips. Hey, I said they were meals at home, not that they were good meals. We have to have quick, child will eatable meals on Weds because we have two classes on Weds with dinner in between.

I'm reasonably happy that Oscar Mayer has transitioned to no nitrates, nitrates, fillers ot "artificial" preservatives. While not necessarily healthy, not as bad as previous iterations. I don't find anything objectionable with their turkey dogs.

I don't know how child friendly my attempts are, but my variations include a simple turkey chili topping, bagged cole slaws, and either bbq sauce or ranch dressing. I even ditch the bun and use a low carb tortilla.

It's what I can do to get that junk food like fix without gwtting too junk foody about it.

I have rotisserie chicken alfredo... ok, ok I bought the damn chicken. And the pasta. I did make my own sauce, though. I think I did a better job at the cheese/cream/garlic balance than I've ever done before. I also added in some thinly sliced pan-seared cayenne pepper, and that might be the best thing I've EVER done with white sauce. It adds a kick without being obtrusive and holy fucking hell it's good.

Three-egg ham omelet with fresh basil and half a large tomato from the garden, seasoned w/garlic salt and chipotle chile pepper. Also olive oil, cast iron pan. Big enough that I cut it half and am having the rest for breakfast tomorrow.

You too eh? I'm doing eggs benedict with toasted sourdough and half a pound of bacon because fuck it, I love bacon.

My hollandaise technique still needs work though. I think I'm firing up the pan too fast and not letting it thicken properly over a slower heat.

(I haven't even attempted this in like 8 or 9 years, so I'm glad I didn't just flat out ruin it.)

So I had a dinnermergency, where I needed to make dinner, had almost nothing in the house, and my feet just hurt waaaay too much to go into a giant grocery store and walk around on the hard floors there. (I have had some pretty bad plantar fasciitis recently, but today is extra bad.)

And I cannot even with pasta or cheese right now.

But I had rice, half a bag of spinach, and then I remembered that I had a thing of not good precooked Andouille sausage that I put in the freezer because it's not good. So I quick defrosted the sausage, sliced it up, sauteed it with OO and garlic, then added a can of cannellini beans, a can of crushed tomatoes, and the spinach, julienned. Plus smoked paprika, thyme, a little cayenne, salt, and cracked black pepper. And now I am cooking the rice in it.

It's not done yet, and I don't know if it's going to be any good, but in concept if nothing else, I'm kind of proud that I managed to come up with something. Plus: One pot.

We have some nice Palisade peaches, too, for dessert. I'll even slice them!

My freezer is full of Not-that-good meat that I haven't used up yet. Sometimes it is good enough.

How did it turn out?

It came out pretty good! I did somehow forget to rinse the rice, so it was gluey, but other from that, I'd make it again.

The older I get, the grosser I feel when I eat fast food or other pre-made stuff, so I need lots of emergency dinner ideas.

Tonight it is crockpot pork pretend bbq. If the cabbage hasn't gone bad, we will have coleslaw. And corn on the cob.

Last week, we were hit by a cold and did take out most nights because the adults were just tiiiirrrreeeedd. Like too tired to put stuff in the crockpot tired. Like I made hard boiled eggs and after I took them off the heat, the next time my brain thought of them it was 8 hours later, tired.

My fridge is looking so much better now that we're churning through things, though! It's just so satisfying to use things up!

I recently gotsed an ice cream trailer and a flame grill/flat grill kiosk, in May. I sell 'talian sausage with pepper and onion sammich, cheese steaks sammich, meat ball sammich, chicken kabob, pork kabob. I predict these sammich type orferings will become less popular as the weather cools. Who wants to hold on to a sloppy sammich at < 65 degrees f? I'm preparing to offer curry wurst, because of the stabby way you can eat it.

Any other suggestions along that line? Must be simple! It's just me.

Also, what is a good commonly available coffee brand/variety that would taste good to most people?

Where are you from that 65 is considered "cold? It's 54 in NY and I'm drinking iced coffee.
