I am just wondering how long it will be before the idiom has changed to "crazy human drivers!"

I'm trying to figure out why I would want to drive a car without being physically present. I use the car to get myself places, what would be the point otherwise?

You'll be able to do other stuff - watch TV, read a book, surf the internet while your car drives you to your destination on autopilot.

That I can see, but the article said it would be approved for people to drive without being in the car. The only use I can think of for that would be to pick up your kids from school without going yourself. I know there are crap parents in the world, but seriously how bad of a parent would you have to be to do that?

That kind of parent is probably more common that you want to think. Unfortunately pregnancy does not come with a warning label, and children don't come with an instruction manual. There are people who will give you lots of advice, but 'one size does not fit all'. If the advice is given seriously people will nor listen long, if it is presented in a funny manner people will listen and laugh but will not take it seriously. I taught Jr H S for a few years and I encountered students with really bad parents. One set of parents refused to have anything to do with their son, he had a portion of the house partitioned off from the rest and they gave him money, otherwise he was on his own.

I suppose you might send the car to drive itself to be serviced or have its tyres changed, etc. without having to go yourself. And it might be cheaper to have it drive itself back home (or elsewhere) from the airport rather than paying for airport parking when you're away on business or vacation.

Maybe it would let one car multi task - it could drop you off at work and then drive itself home so your partner could use it for shopping, dropping the kids at school and so on. Later it could drive itself back to your workplace, ready to bring you home.

Old cars could drive themselves to the scrap yard.

That would be real planned obsolencence.

I could see overly cautious robo-car behavior design leading to bad traffic jams...

If they are all turning right it's not a problem.

Just one of them turning right should end the stalemate.
