:whygod: I'm so owned.

Pro-tip: you'll have more success if you first try to actually understand what my position is. That original post that you declared you would not read might be a good start, it's still there. Reading it will take far less time than continuing to spam the forum with links that don't actually address my criticism and constantly repeating a straw man.

The reason why we have a monster like Trump as president is because of people like erimir. It’s not just that he helped foist a useless candidate like Clinton on us. It’s because, just like Trumpkins, erimir lies all the time — or perhaps, more charitably, he can’t tell the difference between the truth and a lie.

The idea that the NY Times somehow helped Trump get elected is a LIE — or it’s a monstrously stupid misunderstanding of reality. With the possible exception of the Washington Post, NO major news outlet has been more aggressive in challenging Trump and pointing out that the orange shit head wanna-be emperor has no clothes.

Does this mean that the Times coverage of the election or anything else is flawless? Of course not. The Times is ridden with debacles: Judith Miller, Jayson Blair, the recent appalling piece on the normal Nazi … the list goes on.

But to claim that the Times somehow facilitated the election of Trump either by sins of omission or commission is, in my view, utterly unsupported by any evidence and in fact all the evidence goes in the opposite direction — as I’ve already shown in the links upthread. And I can show MANY MORE such links.

To misunderstand or deliberately lie about reality EXACTLY plays into the hands of “President” Cheeto Benito and his toadies, who want to OBLITERATE the distinction between truth and lies. So keep it up, erimir, you’re a useful idiot for our wanna-be dictator! :pat: Once both people on the left and on the right have abandoned any devotion to truth then what little democracy and justice is left in the corrupt oligarchy that is America will be gone. Not that it matters much, I suppose, as climate change will put paid to all of us in a couple of generations.

:blahblah:

In other words, you still haven't read it and still can't accurately describe my position.

I also see that *I* helped foist Clinton on everyone as the Democratic nominee, as a private citizen who didn't give any money during the primaries, didn't volunteer for her campaign during the primaries, and who doesn't have any notably large platform and who only voted during the primary after she clinched the nomination...

Meanwhile, suggesting that the NYT's over-hyped and incessant coverage of a trivial and irrelevant scandal (and other "raises questions" and "casts a cloud" bullshit coverage like the time that her husband went on a diplomatic mission, and his aides who had Clinton Foundation connections asked for diplomatic passports for use on this diplomatic mission... and then didn't get those passports) while giving comparatively little coverage to issues that would actually affect voters' lives and not giving far more serious Trump scandals an equivalent volume of coverage... To say that may have been unfairly damaging to Clinton and thus helped cost her the election is totally implausible.

Of course, you have yet to discuss the relative volume of coverage given to various things, since the notion that a trivial matter of Clinton's email server was worthy of more coverage than every public policy issue is self-evidently ludicrous. The notion that her email server deserved more coverage than Trump's fraudulent university fleecing thousands of people of millions of dollars is also self-evidently ridiculous. So you will attack a straw man instead.

You have no interest in such critiques as this one published at the Columbia Journalism Review, instead you attack straw men claims like that I think the NYT should not have covered the Comey letter at all.

It's hard for david to respond to such observations, because to accept that the media did a bad job in a way that helped Trump/harmed Clinton would imply that Hillary Clinton is not the only one who deserves criticism for the outcome of the election. (Well, apparently *I* also deserve more blame than the NYT.)

So he will plug his ears and pretend that those arguments don't exist at all :lalala:

This!

I'm pretty sure economists don't generally support public libraries, public schools, public roads, socialized medicine, social security, public beaches, public playgrounds, pools, and parks, banking regulations, rural electrification, etc; those same Chicago-school assholes of course don't approve of Net Neutrality. Why would they ever support something that benefits people generally, when it could be put on the "free market" and every bit of value squeezed out of it on that "level playing field"? You know, make believe.

Which is why economists and their fake science generally, and libertarian Von Mises-worshipping douches specifically, can go fuck themselves when it comes to their vision of what they want.

I give no fucks what economists think of Net Neutrality.

AT&T sued over layoffs—after promising more investment because of tax cut | Ars Technica

Quote:
Indeed, AT&T told the FCC in 2010 that capital investments are based on technology upgrade cycles and should not be expected to rise year after year. Capital investments are naturally "lumpy," rising and falling from one year to the next based on specific needs at specific times, AT&T said at the time.

The difference is that in 2010, AT&T was asking the FCC to declare that the wireless market is competitive, and it didn't want a slight decline in spending to be seen as a problem. In 2017, a slight decline in spending was touted by AT&T as a problem because it wanted the FCC to eliminate net neutrality rules.

Finally, AT&T's statement today said that "we still have thousands more premises technicians than we did two years ago." In other words, AT&T says that it greatly expanded its workforce during a two-year period when the Title II net neutrality rules were in place.

We asked the AT&T spokesperson to explain how the telco was able to boost its workforce despite the burden of net neutrality rules, and we're still waiting for an answer. But AT&T's statement that it has boosted staff under the Title II rules confirms what AT&T has occasionally admitted to investors—that the net neutrality rules did not hinder its business plans.

Similarly, Comcast recently claimed that it will invest more than $50 billion in infrastructure over the next five years because of the repeal of net neutrality rules and the new tax overhaul. However, Comcast's own data shows that the company's investments soared while the net neutrality rules were in place and would hit the "new" milestone if its investments continued increasing by a modest amount.
Like Nazis, "economists" really need a bullet to the back of the head.

You know you're in for a treat when the reporter uses the term "full tard" and reads your mind by asking someone to shove a piece of meat in a guys mouth so he shuts up.

"Regulations" are to libertarians as "Toxins" are to woo alternative medicine. They don't know what they are, can't give you any details, but are certain they are bad, and if you invest now in our certainly not a scam you can trust us religion we will clear all those pesky regulations from your body. It reminds me of the libertarian I talked to recently who claimed any sort of government regulation was anti capitalism.

Holy shit. There are some real problems with that Burger King analogy,* but somehow, I'm most of the way through that dumb video and he has not hit on a single legitimate point.

And his analogies are even worse and less relevant.

* Analogies are never 100% on point, and I don't like seeing them used beyond the most cursory explanations, so I admit I am a fussbudget.

I went to Burger King today, even though I know they have their snackbars in illegal Israeli settlements but I was tempted by their ALLEGED grilled hot dogs. But then! They were out of alleged hot dogs!! So I bought a whopper and fries and cried all the way home and still :cryhome:

AynMisesLibertarian titled this thread "What the liberal media don't tell you: Most REAL economists oppose Net Neutrality". Like most right-wingers, he neglects an important fact about the news media. That it is mostly capitalist.

Since such people believe in the absolute goodness of capitalism, they must also believe that the news media are absolutely good. Since they believe in love-it-or-leave-it, they must refuse to patronize it, because that is all one has to do, and all that one ever has a right to do.
