Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
The Mandalorian is great, although I really wonder how it was experienced by people who haven’t seen a bunch of old Samurai movies (really, if you watched the Mandalorian and don’t know what ‘babycart assassin’ means, what did you think?)
Besides old samurai movies it’s also clear the writers played a lot of video games, as I’m certain I’ve played a few of these missions, to the point I called when a few ‘mission complete’ cutscenes would start, had it been a video game, but that’s not a bad thing.
This has meant that they have done power dynamics quite well, Mando is a badass in armor but is still just some dude, and it’s possible to get a feel for when he’s outmatched, in over his head, or clearly has everything under control. This is one of my complaints with the marvel movies. In theory there should be obvious power differences that would greatly change how the Avengers attack the enemy, but in practice it’s just, *punch them harder.*
Which gets to the point, the few times we see jedi does such a good job of establishing them as not god like but at such a higher power level that the answer to ‘how do you go toe to toe with a jedi?’ is, ‘you just don’t.’ You run, you hide, you trick them, maybe get your own jedi, etc, but you don’t just punch at them harder.
Which leads to the main reason for this post, this great youtube mix of a Mandalorian fight scene, with I need a hero.
Warning serious end of season 2 spoilers

I have not seen any Samurai movies, and am unfamiliar with that term, and I loooove The Mandalorian.
I have seen some Westerns, which is what it (and Star Wars in general) reminds me of, though I do know that westerns themselves are remade samurai stories.

Society6 removed a design of mine, supposedly for violating their content restrictions.
My response:
"You removed my picture of my cat which is named Chewbacca."

Renamed this to "A big media company hates cats Fisheye" and told them their policy is bad and they should feel bad.

I really enjoy the Corridor crew VFX videos. This lightsaber duel was especially good, and many times better than anything in any of the movies.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Has anyone watched Obi-Wan Kenobi?
I really enjoyed it. Vivian Lyra Blair as young Leia was amazing. I knew nothing going in so I thought she was like 6 years old in episode 1. I was watching her and thinking "is this kid supposed to be a genius? she's way too smart for 5 or 6" and then you find out she's 10 (11?) in the show and in real life I think she does look young, but it's probably also me - as I get older young people look younger and younger to me.
Anyway, good special effects, some great cast* and gripping story telling imo.
*I'll watch Kumail Nanjiani in anything and I loved a very different looking Rupert Friend who I've been a big fan of since Homeland where he was one of the few likeable characters.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Well made for sure, and enjoyable, but just ever so slightly undermined by the fact that the main characters were all people you knew would survive just fine.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Yeah, a nice adventure with some pretty low stakes. Of the recent crop of Star Wars TV shows, one of the better ones, IMO. Up there with The Mandalorian season 1.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
I really, really disliked it. It made no sense and we already knew how it would play out.
Actually it was even worse than The Book of Boba Fett.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
As pleased as I was to see Ewan Kenobi, it wasn't anything I needed. There hsouldn't have been any Vader or Imperial inquisitation nonsense. Just a (former) Jedi trying to find his way in a galaxy that now is anti-jedi. Or something. Kind of like a Kung Fu, but in the galaxy far far away.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
I've been trying to decide whether to watch this and—now that I've read your esteemed opinions—I still don't know whether to watch it.
So ... thanks?

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Obi-Wan was OK. I was hung up on that kid supposed to be ten, but looked 6.
I liked Moses Ingram's character. And Haja, Kumail Nanjiani's character, was a trip.
As for the Boba Fett thing, I spent the whole time wondering "Where are they going with this?"

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
It really felt to me they should have made Obi Wan older and at least try to remind you of Alex Guiness. I mean, in this show Obi Wan is only 10-12 years away from Episode 4, so he needed more grey hair and maybe even cut the hair short. Obi Wan was no fucking hippie! To me it made it feel like it was more of an homage to Episode 1 and nothing to build towards Episode 4.
