Default The Absence of Pain

Actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness; wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness. By happiness is intended pleasure and the absence of pain.

John Stuart Mill

Pain is part of every experience. It has been said that the senses suffer when they do their work. Pain cannot be avoided except by avoiding experience. But pain need not be long-lasting.

If I seek happiness and desire to subject my senses to pleasurable experiences then there will be happiness. I continuously try to experience pleasure by seeking out those things which I like immediately or that I like after becoming accustomed to. It's a time consuming search.

The Searcher

The darkness is there,
It is most clear,
I must prepare.
Because I care,
To find my way.

I've heard it said that "feeling pain makes you feel alive"

I believe that feeling either pleasure or pain makes you feel alive. As far as the Person is concerned I believe this with my whole heart and every fiber of my body.

Feeling in and of itself makes one feel alive. As far as the Person is concerned prolonged pain has the negative effect of making one feel close to death.

Many people that I have met feel death is painful unless it happens suddenly. Many of these people feel they hope they die in their sleep unaware of what is happening to them. My own mother was one of these people and she did die in her sleep.

What is the worst pain you have felt?

For me, my worst pain is a tooth ache.

The worst toothache I've had in the last 10 years is when my upper left wisdom tooth hurt. The pain was terrible. It shot right to my eyes and brain. I didn't have any pain pills so I went to the liquor store and bought some Jack Daniels bourbon. I drank that straight until I was just about stone drunk. The tooth still hurt. I called my dentist and got an emergency appointment for the next day. When I went to the Dentist he gave me novocaine while he took an x-ray. It still hurt. He decided to pull it and did.
That did it.

Thank goodness I don't have very many toothaches.

From a previous thread I had written...

I had gone to a podiatrist a couple of times and all she did was to cut my toenails. I had complained that my big toe was bending and was painful. She said that was the beginning of a bunion and she offered to take an x-ray which I refused. Then she told me about her bunion operations on both feet.

I stopped going to her since I could cut my own toenails. I started wearing open toe sandals and the pain went away.

Whenever I start feeling pain I seek natural ways to get rid of it. Given some time if this doesn't work then I seek medical ways. In either case I get Rid of the pain.
