I know, I got MLP in your ST. I have boundary issues.
I'm Ensign Steve and I approve of this message.

But, check it. At 18:07 in this video, you can totally hear the initiation of the primary pattern buffer of a standard Federation issue transporter.
I watched from about 17:30 and there's tons of sparkly noises (can noises be sparkly?) and I'm like "yeah, the transporter sounds sparkly, I guess there's some similarity" but then 18:07 hit and I was like OMG TOTALLY!

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is doing a sci-fi themed concert with George Takei as the special guest. I'm planning to take my first generation Trekkie sister for her Library Week gift. Maybe he's doing a tour, you people should check.

I didn't even know Wil Wheaton was on Star Trek until tonight--I just saw TNG for the first time. I guess that's why he came up in this Star Trek thread.
One thing that's really cool about Wheaton is that he understands exactly why Star Trek fans simply hate Wesley Crusher. He has written some pretty funny and insightful blog posts in which he explains how even he loathes the character. Basically, he excoriates the writers for trying to make Wesley look good by having everyone else around him -- supposedly highly-trained Starfleet personnel -- behave like brain-dead idiots.

He also understands that he was a world-class dick to his fans when he was a teenager and he's pretty contrite and cool about it now. It's not just that he understands exactly why Star Trek fans hate Wesley Crusher, but why they hated Wil Wheaton (one of those being that he hated the character and therefore the fans).
I'm interested in some FFers opinons: I'm re-watching TNG in my down time lately, and I plan on going through all seven seasons eventually. If you were doing that, would you skip the episodes you knew were bad, or would you watch them anyway, in all their terrible glory?

I watch them. I like to groan and moan at the horrible ones. Season six has some of the best and worst episodes, it's an emotional roller coaster to slog through them. It's as satisfying as cutting.
I've never bought The Next Generation on dvd (much less Deep Space Nine or ... [ugh!] Voyager). I figured that I might do so when they finally get around to releasing it on blu-ray.
And I'm sorry, but from what little I've seen of it, I refuse to accept that Star Trek: Enterprise is part of the canon.
Anyway, it appears that the wait is nearly over. Looks like they'll be upgrading the special effects somewhat too. Some episodes (notably "Yesterday's Enterprise" and "The Best of Both Worlds") could really benefit from upgraded special effects. I hope they do a good job: it was really hit-or-miss with TOS.
Cheers,
Michael

Is it bad that she was my first thought before clicking the link? I've not seen the Star Trek episode, but TV Tropes mentions her. Also her quest: Twenty Bear Asses - Television Tropes & Idioms (no one has added Skyrim to that page yet, but Daggerfall, Morrowwind and Oblivion are all listed.)
