I read that race science piece and was amazed at how, in just a few years, a guy with a craniotomy and an island dream could go from a podunk message board that nobody links to, to having his very own column in the New York Times.

I don't read American tabloids so I mainly know what they're like from osmosis of discussion of them, but for an innocuous thing like cradling your baby bump this was far beyond what I would expect to see written in a US publication

So the Republicans are described by their positive self-identification, and the Democrats are described by the Republicans' bullshit attacks on them. Huh.
Although to some extent the NYT have (not at all in the way they intended) touched on a truth: the Repubs became the party of those whose think they are left behind. White men, for example. Possibly for only.
Those actually left behind, as the tweeter points out, aren't mentioned.
Firing whistleblowers and threatening military discipline against them for reporting troubling information (to put it charitably) through the proper channels is "fighting the Deep State". Why is "straight news" using Trump's deeply partisan and dishonest framing?
Purging the bureaucracy of anyone who's not a loyalist is just fighting the Deep State, as opposed to building a right-wing Deep State. One might worry about the situation where Trump loses the election but refuses to concede defeat, that institutions will be sufficiently compromised that they'll side with him lawlessly declaring victory.
Failure to describe such issues in Trumpian far-right buzzwords would render a media outlet a mere Democrat propaganda rag.
