The 'degree' label in US criminal law is used to designate things like maximum possible sentence, and is usually defined by the severity of the crime, e.g. punching someone once or twice vs beating them half to death, or other factors like premeditation. The exact definitions and potential sentences vary a lot.

And the winner of the special election to complete the unexpired term of deceased Rep. Don Young is Mary Peltola, a Democrat who was born in 1973 right around the time Young first got elected to the House of Reps, and an indigenous person, you know, a real Alaskan.
Wasilla Gorilla, fresh off having her former in-laws host fundraising events for her GOP opponent, finished second. They'll do it all over come November for election to the 118th Congress, but at that point Peltola will be running as an incumbent.
Oh, and this man is goddamn genius.
